Kearns Willing to Give Sugar Return Title Bout NEW YORK, N. Y., June 27 UP . Manager Jack Kearns consented today for light-heavyweight champion Joey Maxim to give Sugar Ray Robinson a return title bout "any time promoter Jim Norris wants to stage it." Kearns said Maxim would meet Robinson at either New York or Chicago if Maxim gets the champions percentage of 40 per cent of the net proceeds. Kearns said, "I really dont believe "Robinson wants a return bout. I think . he is merely looking- for sympathy. But if he wants to close for the return match, all he has to do is come down to the IBC offices and sign any time." Kearns made this announcement as a reply to Robinsons statement in which Sugar Ray asked for a return fight. Robinson said he believed it, was the heat and not Maxim that caused his defeat in their title bout at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night.
