MURPHY Staff Correspondent SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 5. — Master Red, a three-year-old from the stable of Merle Mitchell, remained unbeaten at the meeting when he won his second race of the session in the Swing On Purse here this afternoon. Hustled to the front early by jockey Don Wagner, Master Red never relinquished command, although hard pressed to defeat the favored Dink, from the M. H. VanBerg stable, by a neck. Third place was taken by the fast-closing outsider, On Train, who nipped Possess near the end. The distance was five furlongs and, after breaking in the middle of the eight-horse field, Master Reds early speed carried him to the front before the first turn was reached. The attendance on the rather gloomy afternoon was 9,507. A drizzle began while the fourth event was in progress, but the rain ceased following the running of the fifth, although the weather remained threatening. Despite the fact that Little Xs, an odds-on favorite, won the first race, the largest Daily Double pay-off of the meeting was posted when Obtain, an outsider, took the second. The combination award was 00.40. Obtain was an easy winner, but Little Xs was all out to best Burg Lady. In fact, it is likely the latter would have won but for bearing out in the stretch after she reached the head end. Skoronski, whose winning mounts at this meeting have been below par, was on Little Xs, and Herb Litzenberger rode Obtain. W. H. Bishops recent claim, Snapheel, made good in the third race when, under the steering of jockey Harold Keene, he was an easy victor over Rough n Ready. Bubble Gum was the favorite but he finished last in the field of nine, being far back of the eighth horse. Bubble Gum seemed sore after pulling up.
