Among starters were four Keeneland-sold yearlings, three of which were destined to receive a share of the prize money at the finish line. Dark Star, the winner, was sold to the Cain Hoy Stable of Harry Guggenheim by Warner L. Jones, Jr., at the 1951 summer sale of "selected yearlings," wearing hip number 248. Invigorator, third in the Derby, was only the second yearling purchased at auction by the Saxon Stable of L. R. Allison and M. R. Prestridge. He was the only horse sold by his breeder, S. S. Gano, at the 1951 summer sale and commanded a top bid of ,-000. Gano will offer a full sister to Invigorator at the sale this summer. Along with Royal Bay Gems fourth in the Derby, Keeneland consignors were further enthused with the results of the Debutante Stakes run just prior to the Derby. This event was won by Mrs. Elizabeth Bris-bines Golly, a filly acquired at last years Keeneland fall sales for 00 from the consignment of B. M. Browning. Among the yearlings entered in the 1953 summer sale are 19 sired by Royal Gem II., sire of Dark Star and Royal Bay Gem. Nine of these yearlings are in the consignment of Warner L.
