IRON HEEL showed in front away from the gate, drew out to a commanding lead in the stretch under steady handling and continued well, MIELAISON raced on the outside reaching closer contention and finished well to be clear of the other; ROMAN MIRAGE could not keep up atter a good start, then responded to punishment in the stretch and finished well. WOODLANDS was a sharp contender into the stretch and weakened. HOT PILOT rallied belatedly. CANARIS, fractious before the start, rushed forward after the start and tired in the drive. GAY DRUMMER quickly disposed of HELOT rounding the final turn, opened a safe advantage and won ridden out. DIRECTOR BELLE lacked speed away from the gate, saved ground in the drive and finished fast. WOLF CRY was carried wide by MR. MAJORITY on the stretch turn, then overcame that interference to finish willingly. HELOT began alertly, but willingly gave way to the winner and faltered. MALZINIA tired. JIMMINY JOY C. lacked a closing rally. MR. MAJORITY bore out badly in the drive. COGNAC tired badly. WHERE ARE WE was steadied when caught between horses after a good beginning and steered to the outside on the final turn, then willingly wore down the leaders and won going away. ADMIRATION alternated in setting and forcing the pace with TWILIGHT SONG, was no match for the winner, but lasted to best that rival. TWILIGHT SONG saved ground dueling for the pace and weakened in the last eighth. WAR LASS came between horses to improve position in the drive MYSTERY FLIGHT was forced back from close quarters on the far turn, then closed well when urged near the end. PEARL DIVER bore out badly. WARMED OVER easily raced to the pace down the backstretch, was alertly handled coming through on the rail to take command and open a long lead, then lasted when punished to hold MILLDALE safe. The latter, in hand racing close behind the first group, swung extremely wide into the stretch and finished fast. ESTUARY was outrun early came outside MILLDALE rallying in the stretch and finished gamely. FOR RENT was not a threat. PASSING PARADE and STAR Z. quit. RUSTY saved ground and established a clear lead under alert handling, shook off DOLLARGOFAST after five furlongs, then withstood GREY ARROW under brisk purshment. GREY ARROW was occasionally steadied while improving position from the inside, appeared ready to take command challenging RUSTY in the early stretch, but was taken in hand trying to lug over on his rival and hung when -straightened. HUESO was reserved in closest attendance to the pace, easily put away DANDOLO to take command on the stretch turn and left contention behind while drifting to the middle of the track despite shading from the whip. BETTER GOODS was rated within easy striking distance, came slightly wide into the stretch, then failed to respond, but lasted to be clearly best of the others. BY ZEUS raced on the inside, apparently disliked the going, but responded well to gain his placing. SAKR-EL-BAHR raced on the outside and lacked a rally. DANDOLO set an even pace to the stretch and faltered. NEW DREAM appeared to have a tendency to lug in. JOE JONES raced on the inside and showed little. SCIMITAR gave a dull effort. PACIFIC OCEAN, lightly reserved while closest to the pace, saved all possible ground and opened a clear lead when RECOVER faltered, then lasted under a hard drive and staved off WAR PHAR. The latter raced well out in the track, gradually making up ground, appeared the probable winner mid-stretch, but did not respond when called upon. DO REPORT failed to join the leaders early and went alone evenly. RECOVER had speed for a holf-mile and faltered. BRUSH BURN and WONDERFUL YOU were outrun. THASIAN HERO gradually moved closer to the pace racing on the outside, headed THE EAGLE on the final turn, then alternated showing in front through the stretch and gamely gained the decision. THE EAGLE assumed command when ready at the half mile, saved ground and held on tenaciously. BERTRANDVILLE, in hand for a half mile, willingly raced into closer -contention when roused, but was no threat to the top pair. ARDOCH was shuffled back going to the first turn and performed evenly.
