Gay Order Successful In Fort Miami Sprint Denies Late Challenge of Fair Degree With Chapman in Saddle By R. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent FORT MIAMI, Maumee, Ohio, May 5. — Gay Order finally lived up to his classical looks and his winning effort earlier in the meeting when he raced to a length and a* half victory in the fifth race over the five and a half furlongs sprint distance. A bright, though slightly chilled sun, dispelled the gloom from the stands which housed 1,737 fans, but could not dry the overnight moisture from the course which remained "good" from the overnight rains. Gay Order traversed the distance in 1 : 07 and paid 2.20 as he benefited from stronger handling than he enjoyed in his last two outings. Jockey Kenny Chapman was in the pilot seat today and was unruffled as the six-year-old son of Attention — Valdina Gay, which approximates the breeding of the stouter Spartan Valor, was bumped at the head of the stretch by tiring Velvet Bound. Chapman steadied the gelding for a moment, then went about his business again and Gay Order answered all questions by denying the late challenge of the favored Fair Degree.
