Speedy Snow Wave Goes Postward at Fort Miami Track Record Holder Vies Again With Carol Sue and Boutonniere FORT MIAMI, Maumee, Ohio, May 5 — Another fine sprint handicap has been carded at the Fort Miami track tomorrow. It will match six sprinters at the five furlongs distance and test the speedy Snow Wave under the burden of 118 pounds. The fleet daughter of Ocean Wave — Jinky is holder of the track record for five and a half furlongs at the Maumee track and has been seen in action once at this meeting. In that affair the A. L. Hoffert miss made her Iowa owner and trainer justifiably proud of his conditioning prowess for Snow Wave just breezed to an easy score by almost four lengths in her debut for 1953. During a widely traveled three-year-old campaign the filly had five victories to her credit and put almost 8,000 miles into her log book. Only Clarence Hartwicks Sickles Image was probably more widely traveled. Two members of the field, Carol Sue and Boutonniere, were behind Snow Wave in her initial victory and receive 10-pound weight shifts from their performance that day. They will certainly deserve it though Carol Sue was in front of Snow Wave only to be collared when she let out the wraps. Thomas H., Open Way and Fleeting Rock complete the small field that will face the Iowa filly with the last mentioned having the best chance of the trio to upset. The five-year-old mare had a world of speed in a recent outing at the same distance as the Wednesday handicap and tired but slightly. If permitted to steal any kind of a lead she may reward her backers in the expected crowd handsomely. Otherwise Snow Wave is taken as the odds -on choice to score her second win of the meeting and imperil the track mark for the five furlongs distance of : 59 Vis, set by Sonney Casey, way back in 1943 when the meeting was conducted under different auspices.
