Los Angefes Labor Council Backs Hollywood in Dispute LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 5.— Hollywood Park has 100 per cent backing of union labor in the purse demands of the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association upon it, it was announced today by A F of L officials. The Los Angeles Central Labor Council, representing organized A F of L labor in Los Angeles County and representing approximately 500,000 members, last night unanimously condemned the demands and methods of the HBPA and backed Hollywood Park in the controversy. The resolution was introduced by Paul J. OHalloran, business representative of the Pari -mutuel Employees Guild of California, Local 280, and Joseph E. Detche-mendy, president, Local 280, Pari-mutuel Employees Guild, Building Service Employees International Union. The resolution follows: "Whereas, over 2,000 American Federation of Labor trade unionists are employed by the Hollywood Turf Club under bona fide labor agreements with numerous organized crafts belonging to the Los Angeles Central Labor Council, and "Whereas, the jobs of these trade unionists are being jeopardized by the threat of the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association hereinafter called HBPA to interfere with Hollywood Parks forthcoming race meeting, and "Whereas, the HBPA is not a bona fide trade union but an association of horsemen and trainers, unaffiliated with the labor movement, that has seldom, if ever, cooperated with the bona fide unions, and "Whereas, the Hollywood Turf Club is , offering to the horsemen the highest purses in the history of racing; and Whereas, the HBPA is seeking in a manner not condoned by trade union practices to enforce demands for still higher purses, and "Whereas, the unreasonable demands and actions of the HBPA are inimical to the interest of union members employed at Hollywood Park and other California tracks; "Therefore be it resolved that the Los Angeles Central Labor Council go on record as being unsympathetic with the demands and methods of the HBPA, and "Be it further resolved, that all affiliates of the Los Angeles Central Labor Council be informed of this position, and be it further resolved, that all affiliated local unions, and the public be informed that the HBPA . not a bona fide trade union affiliated. with the American Federation of Labor and should not be confused with such."
