C. B. Fischbachs heavily backed favorite, Fussy Lady, scored a driving length and one-half tally over E. H. Lanes Deck. Cherry in this afternoons featured Eddie Bracken Purse. Another seven lengths back at the send of the five furlongs was "Buddy" Hamars Snubbed. Gail Parker rode a strong race aboard the winning daughter of Eternal Bull. Fussy Lady paid .40 and was timed in 1:02 over the sloppy track. Rain once again fell in this area just prior to the races and it held the crowd down considerably, as only about 3,500 patrons turned out on the third day of this 42-day meeting. Form held up well with four of the public choices scoring through the sixth race. Asserts Superiority Quickly Fussy Lady was in front at the start of the Bracken Purse, being followed by Gilded King, Clever Defense, Deb Talk, Snubbed, Deck Cherry, Sports Play and Queens Hope. The ultimate winner never relinquished her advantage and racing into the far turn was in front by a length and one-half with Gilded King still second another two lengths to the good of Clever Defense. The running order was much the same as the horses entered the stretch with the only change being Deck Cherry, who ranged up to be third on .the stretch turn. The favorite was in front by three lengths at that stage of the race. Through the stretch, Deck Cherry moved past Gilded King into second position and set out in hot pursuit of Fussy Lady who was now in the middle of the track. Fussy Lady was making her sixth start and was winning for the second time. Her last winning race was scored during the Fair Grounds New Orleans meeting last winter. She has only been unplaced once and that was a fourth in a stake at Bowie in which she was later awarded third money when the purse was taken from C. M. Grahams Will See. Eddie Bracken, for whom the race was named, presented a trophy to Mrs. C. B. Fischbach immediately following her fillys i victory. William L. Huntleys "Mr. Songbird accounted for the third race on the program while being strongly ridden by Lamar Bauer. The winners margin was two and one-half lengths over William O. Porters Ding-Ding who, in turn, was another length and three parts before Southern Cross at the end of the five and one-half furlongs sprint. Mr. Songbird who is trained by Balti-morean Don Yates, gained the lead at the outset and then maintained a clear advantage under a hard drive. He was winning for the first time this year in three starts, and paid .80 as the lukewarm choice. The Dorchester Farms Palace-Circles won the second race while being ridden by Paul A. Ward.. .Bob-Ed, who led to just inside the furlong marker, was second three lengths back and Tonys Trouble garnered third money. It was the first horse that the locally owned Dorchester outfit had run at the meeting. The Top Row filly rewarded her backers with .60 and completed a 3.40 Daily Double.
