As a two-year-old he won an allowance race at Washington Park and ran a close second to Occupation in the 1942 Washington Park Futurity. That marked the only time a Hertz horse has raced in this area in 15 years. The next year the mighty colt became the first horse in history to capture the "Big Five" three-year-old spring events the Wood Memorial, Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont Stakes and the Withers. He was retired shortly after the last event to become one of this countrys greatest " sires. In 1951 Count Fleets 64 offspring won" 124 races and earned ,160,847 to make him the years leading sire.
