Queen Elizabeths Aureole Captures Coronation Cup Special to Daily Racing Form EPSON DOWNS, Epsom, England, June 3 Reuters. Queen Elizabeths striking four-year-old chestnut, Aureole, runner-up in last years Derby, was given a rousing reception as he raced home an easy winner of the fifty-third running of the Coronation Cup at 12 furlongs here today. Loud cheering and traditional doffing of hats greeted the success of the son of Hyperion Angelola as he galloped away from the pacesetting Chatsworth as soon as the field rounded Tattenham Corner. Striding out majestically, Aureole, the 5-to-2 second choice who was ridden by Eph Smith, had five lengths to spare over Major Hollidas 100-to-7 shot, Chatsworth, ! at the wire. The ll-to-8 favorite, Nearula, owned by William Humble, was another five lengths back in third place in the field of eight. Unfortunately, Her Majesty was not present but she will attend Fridays racing to watch Aureoles full sister, Angel Bright, contest the fillies classic, the Oaks. . r Aureole was clocked in 2:35. The royal horse is now greatly favored to go one better in the King George VI. and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot in July. Aureole was beaten by Pinza last year. This is the event for which Alfred Gwynne Van-derbilts American champion is entered.
