Clark Only American to Own, Breed Epsom Derby Winner NEW YORK, N. Y., June 3. Robert Sterling: Clark, whose Never Say Die won the Epsom Derby Wednesday, has another distinction in addition to being: the first American owner to take the classic since 1914, it was revealed today by his friend, Humphrey Finney, president and general manager of the Fasigr-Tipton Company. Finney said that Clark also is the breeder of Never Say Die, which makes the New York sportsman the first man ever to breed and own a winning: American horse in the Derby in its 174-year history. The only other American-owned and -bred horse to triumph in this event, Iroquois, in 1881, was not bred by his owner. Iroquois was bred at the Chestnut Hill Farm of Aristides Welch in Pennsylvania and later purchased by Pierre Lorillard. Never Say Dies dam, Singing- Grass, is owned by Clark and was foaled at John A., Bells farm in Ken-tacky. Jw i
