I Delaware Park News and Notes By FRED GALIANI Mare Cinda Hitting Comeback Trail Was Sidelined Due to Bowed Tendon Consistent Winner Oyer Male Rivals DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 3. A familiar name showed up on the workout tab the other morning when it nao xiubbu uuav uuuciii Shouses Cinda, now a five-year-old, is hitting the comeback trail. The bay mare, by Occupy Arden Lass, was one of the swiftest sprinters around, and that takes in colts, but was unfortunate in the matter of injuries. Last year, the Amazon-like miss won three out of four starts, including the Oceanport and Regret Handicaps, before she bowed a tendon. Usually when this ailment hits a horse, it marks the end of a racing career. Occasionally some come back in good form, but it is a most Tare occurrence. Lucky Draw is one that comes to mind, but it doesnt happen often. Bernie Bond, who trains Cinda, is hoping that the mare will be an exception to the rule. Not much of a work horse, she went 1:16 breezing, in her first drill in some time. She will be tried at the races again, but if she fails to stand the rigors of training-, she will be retired to stud. In her brief career last year, she beat a number of top ranking colts, including Squared Away, while the year before she won six of 12 starts and was out of the money only three times. That year she beat male horses in the Cherry Blossom and also won the Colonial, Betsy Ross and Regret Handicaps. Cinda- has a weanling full brother on Shouses farm and Bond commented that he is the best looking youngster he had seen. Cindas return will be watchedwith interest to see if she can overcome the jinx of the bow. George Poole, assistant Greentree Stable trainer, arrived with Palm Tree for Saturdays Kent Stakes . . . Bob Winkfield left for France where he will join his father Jimmy, who has been over there fora year and a half now. The elder Winkfield, who rode successive Kentucky Derby winners in His Eminence and Alan-a-Dale in 1900 and 1901, has resumed training horses at Maisons-Lafitte. Jimmy spent many years in France until the war, when he returned here to follow his profession. Bob is due back in the fall. Preston Burch came down from New York Wednesday to watch a couple of Brookmeade horses run ... Bob Houser, who lost part of his finger when he was bit by a "horse, has the left arm in a sling and is handling the recall flag until the injured member will permit him to clamber back up in the gate again as an assistant starter . . . His suspension ending Saturday, Oliver Cutshaw will resume riding then . . . An oddity occurred yesterday when Admiral Jr. and Jr. Admiral both completed in the first race. Representatives of the Maryland courses and the HBPA met here to discuss a number of racing problems. Present were John Jackson, Joe Cascarella, Howard Pierce, L. Ed OHara and Johnny Heil, and representatives John Manfuso, B,ruce Campbell and Joe Kelly, of the HBPA. . . . The admissions team lost their first softball game in league competition since 1947, when they were trimmed by the police department last night, 6 to 4. The admissions team, led by Ted Noss, charged Jack Loome, mentor of the sleuths, with bringing in a ringer as a pitcher. Over 500 people watched the game. Tommy Korinis, who had been helping Ecuador jockey Walter Carrion, has become his regular agent. Carrion and his wife can be found these mornings sitting under the trees and working diligently on a Spanish-English phrase book. . . . Word from Garden State has it that trainer Sammy Saco was badly injured when he was kicked by a horse yesterday morning and he was rushed to Cooper Hospital in Camden. His brother, Willie, ran into ill luck here when his Irritate was disqualified in the Montchanin Handicap. Willie shipped seven horses to Monmouth, including Filippo Baldis Dinner Winner, a nominee for the Salvator Mile. Dave Emery, who succeeded Sid Jacobs as trainer for the Carolyn K. Stable, shipped 18 head this morning to Thistle -Down, including five for that outfit. He returns East for the Atlantic City meeting, . . .
