ACUITY had good speed j from p the start, established u j a rapid pace, shook off challenge of BARTHS-BELLE and was hard ridden to hold XIPPI PIGEON safe. The latter, sluggish in the early stages, was forced to. take the outside while improving position and closed with a rush that just missed. STEERSMAN, close to the pace, came outside to engage the leader and was not good enough. HAL-FLEAM saved ground while closing stoutly. BARTHS-BELLE broke alertly, was with the pace and saving ground, rallied to vie for the lead in the final furlong, and faltered. BASSINGTON weakened. BROTHER MARCH lacked a late rally. WILFUL had no mishap. UP THE RIVER showed nothing. DOM V. and-TEDDY W. were outrun. . . CASE S LADY assumed command soon after the start, dominated the pace for five furlongs, continued on gamely after giving way but was no match ?br the winner. INDIAN PIPE, unhurried in the early stages, moved between horses nearing the far turn, came outside but failed to respond to pressure. BATTLE SHAKE moved up after five furlongs, then went evenly. GOOD-SHOPPER, reserved within striking distance of the pace, slipped through the inside to gain command after straightening out for the drive and lasted to earn a dead-heat with GAME DAL. The latter rallied when sent up on the outside entering the stretch and reached the leader in the final sixteenth. PETERUN worked his way upon the extreme outside, failed to threaten under late pressure. RED CAP had no mishap. BLACK ROVER was outrun. LUREMENOW forced the pace, getting the . lead before six furlongs and faltered in the final furlongs. KING MIDAS retired steadily after a half mile. DAYS DUKE stumbled leaving the gate, recovered quickly and worked his way up on the outside to be going strongest of all at the end. ADMIRAL CHANEY, showing improved form, raced close to the pace after three furlongs, moved up on the outside to engage the leader in the drive, responded to urging and was along to outfinish STONEY CREEK. The latter, a forward factor under steadying restraint to the final quarter mile, moved into command when roused, was put to stout pressure but was not good enough. DRAW rallied mildly from off the pace but was unable to threaten the leaders. LADY BENT was going stoutly in the late stages. TISHIE had no mishap. CHI BU showed brief speed. TAX FOUR, steadied while improving position gradually, swung outside of the leaders in the stretch and was along in the final stride to outfinish LORD LOUIS. The latter was hustled to gain the lead, withstood a sustained challenge from POPPY DAY most of the trip and just missed in a game effort. MESMER moved up on the outside after six furlongs, challenged after straightened for the drive but was not good enough. THE PHEASANT, steadied within strikijjg distance of the leaders, was kept along the inside in the stretch and lacked racing room. POPPY DAY weakened after forcing the pace to the final furlong.
