FIRST HEIR raced close to the pace and maintained a. frw ard position through the stretch, took a short lead in the final fifty yards and held BUSTER JIM safe. The latter raced well placed early and lost, considerable ground on the stretch turn while coming to the outside of the leaders, moved gamely through the stretch and appeared to falter right at the end FLEET ACE made his move with BUSTER JIM in the stretch and was on the inside of the latter. DEAR DOCTOR was closest to DICKS FUTURE while the latter was making the pace, and then bore out on the stretch turn while moving up, but assumed a short advantage entering the last furlong and held CHEROKEE PILOT under urging in the final drive. CHEROKEE PILOT was never too far removed, and finishing strong, was gaining. DICKS FUTURE displayed a good brand of early speed and saved ground in the stretch, but weakened. LITTLE JONESY was going well at the end. EIGHTY NINE was slow to begin, was badly outrun to the stretch turn, and then lost ground but finished well. CLASSY REBEL moved up strongly around the stretch turn to take command entering the final eighth, then went well to the finish to hold DADGUMIT. The latter improved his position after going half the trip and was racing well at the end. ROI COUNT saved ground in the stretch to finish steadily. WHYLAW-was always a fairly good contender. BUSY GAL got to the front early and gradually increased his margin until well into the stretch, then had to be roused near the finish to hold EMERALD. The latter was slow to begin and was badly outrun for three-eighths, then closed much ground and was gaining POLTROON was also autpaced and closed with good courage. McCREIGHT was rated not too far from the early pace, vas sent forward on the outside after entering the stretch, wore down the early pacemakers and won going away under pressure. SET SHOT raced closest to MASTER RED while the latter was making the pace and outfinished him. MASTER RED was quick to leave the gate, showed good speed in leading well into the stretch, then had little left for the final drive. IN CLOVER was never a serious contender. NIGHT-PHARA, close up from the start, moved to the front on the outside on the stretch turn, then went a trifle wide and was headed by PRECIOUS STONE, but continued strongly to outfinish the latter. PRECIOUS STONE was a good contender from the start and saved ground where possible but was unable to resist the winner and might have needed the race. RUHE threw his head in the air right after the start and pulled himself up, then trailed the field to the stretch turn but finished very fast to best the others. LION was rather badly outrun. KIAMI went to the front early, opened up a good lead on the backstretch, raced in his best form and was never in serious danger although rather vigorously hand ridden near the end. HOOPDEDONT easily held second position safe after going the first quarter, but never menaced the winner. JAY EDWARD showed a steady effort and finished fairly well. JANES GAL made up some ground. DAYLIGHT TIME got through on the inside on the backstretch, but lacked power and faded in the stretch. CULLERTON was never a contender and was beaten off at the end. Overweight Janes Gal, 3 pounds. HAPPY EAST trailed the field while racing under restraint for the first six furlongs, then came strongly on the outside and, finishing fast, caught COLUMBUS BOUND near the end. The latter, always a good contender, took a short lead rounding the stretch turn and held on well. STOP CLOCKING showed fine early speed and also displayed a fair amount of courage in the final drive. BONSAND appeared to be in rather close quarters after entering the stretch but went well to the finish. MENTHAPPY closed some ground. QUEEN APACHE tired. MIDAS TOUCH stopped badly.
