J U DG ES STA N D By CHARUS MTT0N BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 10. The Polly Drummond attracted Delaware Parks largest midweek attendance, one of 15,433, and each division developed intense photo finishes. The first exactly re- versed the order of the recent Ran-cocas, when Fantine Busher barely lasted to beat the challenging Cour tesy, with the heavily backed Menolene third. The second resulted in the most signal success to date for the Jersey-bred Sorceress, and this daughter of Slide Rule was along to beat the pacemaking Sue Pat the merest nod on the post. Although Sorceress end of the Polly Drummond had seemed less exacting than Fantine Bustlers on paper, she had to run five furlongs in :58, just a fifth behind Beau Gays course mark, while the Maine Chance filly took a comparatively leisured :59. There may be nippier fillies than Sorceress in training, but not many. At the same time, we were taken with a filly who was unplaced, young Bill Woodwards Natasha. She is by Nasrullah, out of Vagrancy, and looks an Oak filly in the making. Natasha was an outstanding foal and now is large as a three-year-old, not at all the sort for these five-furlong dashes. Fantine Bushers division of the Polly Drummond was practically over when she got on stride at the furlong pole, but she was virtually tossing her smaller rivals over her shoulder from that point to the finish, creating an impression she will beat her more precocious rivals later on. AAA While the two-year-old fillies were entertaining- at Don Ross rural park, the older mares, were contesting the Top FligEt at this point, and the deservedly popular Sunshine Nell came out of this mile nad a sixteenth with colors flying, conceding Spinning Top 13 pounds and Natasha Loses Delaware Stake Impressively Sunshine Nell Assumes Top Rank on LI. Nasrullah Now Has Classic Filly in France Daughter Baghicheh Placed in Prix de Diane beating her a stubborn nose. Behind them were La Cor-redora, Lillal, Atalanta, Canadiana and others of the best mares in training. This was the most distinguishing of all the many successes for the granddaughter of the Preakness winner, Nellie Morse, and suggested she will win other important events. AAA If this seems repetitious, we can only say that is "because Nasrullah is being repetitious. As you know, the marvelous Claiborne progenitor was in the news recently as the sire of R. S. Clarks Epsom Derby winner, Never Say Die. A few days later, the French Oaks was decided at the lovely, wooded Chantilly .course, where top hats and tails are correct, and the latest elegance from Diors and Faths is modelled on the lawns. It was won by Madame Couturies Tornade filly, Tahiti. By a coincidence, the American Tahiti won a little race the same afternoon at Delaware Park. A creditable second in the Prix de Diane, as the French Oaks is called, was The Agas Baghicheh. And this filly is by none other than Nasrullah. Thus, he is represented this season; by two-year-olds of the highest quality in America and classic three-year-olds in both England and France.; It is not a unique distinction, but we Yankees may congratulate ourselves again upon having secured him. One may hope that he will exert an indelible and strengthening influence on our bloodstock, as he hasthat in Ireland, England and France. We have a lively recollection of Baghicheh, who was prompting Vamaries pace while the Strassburger filly was running the swiftest quarter on record at Long-champ last fall. This season, The Agas filly has progressed, while the more precocious Vamarie has been a bit disappointing. In a recent paragraph on Nasrullah and his issue it was noted that he sires a good many chestnuts, although he is himself a brown. Baghicheh is another of his chestnut progeny, and is out of Men-many, by Mieuxce, the next dam, Dulce, by Asterus. The distaff quarterings of her pedigree are distinctly French and she was bred by The Aga and Prince Aly Khan. As Charley Kenney has observed, Nasrullahs blood is extraordinarily "pliant," and he has sired performers of the classic level from all sorts of producers, representing hot French, tepid American and cold Irish strains. Reflecting on our rather polygot stud this is a valuable attribute. AAA Turf ana: Belmonts swish club entrance is the envy of many of George Widehers contemporaries. . . . Bud Burmester likes a two-year-old filly, Star of Erin, by Mr. Chairman, whom he bred and sold Col. Thomas Harrell. Trains promisingly. . . . The Virginia stallion Knockdown was represented by a winner at Delaware Park the other day, Ewart Johnstons gelding, Royal Punch, who was making his first acquaintance with racing."., . . Buddy Raines could not be more pleased with Brandywines foal crop, which numbers seven, five of them colts. . . . Tenacious Ted Atkinson has a comfortable lead in the race for riding honors here, and had accepted approximately 200 mounts at the meeting, last time we looked. The late Joe Palmer aptly observed he will ride eight horses a day Continued on Page Forty-Two JUDGES STAND By CHARLES HATTON Continued from Page Forty-Eight when he cannot, get nine. . . . Chase enthusiasts, and the species is not entirely extinct, regret that the invaders could not make the International more interesting. It is a question if the experiment will be repeated. . . . Bert Mulholland now is hopeful of. returning Evening Out to the races at Aqueduct, and both she and Cherokee Rose may be accounted serious candidates for the New Castle. . . . It still is conjec-turable when "Dancer" will again expose his spot resistent record. . . . Cinda recently ran six furlongs in 1:11 at Delaware Park trying to sulk. . . . Louis Haggins Alibhai filly Sally Catbird, looks strikingly like her incomparable grandsire Hyperion.
