Arlington Hurdle Stakes Attracts 24 Nominations Ginny Bug Early Favorite for Two-Mile Test Set for June 25 A record number of 24 horses has been nominated for the ,500 Arlington Park Hurdle Stakes on June 25, it was announced Tuesday by the Midwest Hunts Racing Association and the Arlington Park Jockey Club. This event is held annually at Arlington Park and is the only steeplechase to be run at a major in the Chicagbland area. It offers racing fans a unique chance to see top-flight thoroughbreds perform over jumps. The race is run over a -two mile course consisting of 10 jumps laid out on the turf track. Steeplechasing was renewed at Arlington Park in 1951 after an lapse of nearly 20 years. It ,was a prominent feature of the track in the early 30s. To be eligible to run in the Arlington Park Hurdle Stakes horses must have started in two races on the Midwest Hunts Racing circuity in 1954 under rules of the National Steeplechase and Hunts Association. The Midwest Hunts Racing circuit conducts steeplechase meetings at Tryon, North Carolina; Memphis, Tennessee; Nashville, Tennessee; Louisville, Kentucky and Indianapolis, Indiana. Early favorite for the race this year is Ginny Bug, winner of the famous Iroquois Steeplechase this year in Nashville. Ginny Bug is owned by Harry S. Nichols of Detroit and trained by Dennis . Murphy of Lexington. Another favorite is Paul Ser-dars Omaha Traveler, winner of the Ox-moor Steeplechase, Louisville. Other prominent contenders . will be: Open Bid, owned by Thomas W. .Bullitt, Louisville; John Willie, owned by .Calvin Houghland Sr., Brentwood, Tenn.; Lady Roxaria, owned by Guilford Dudley, Jr., Nashville; Storm Hour, owned by Dr. John B. Youmans, Franklin, Tenn.; Farmers Joy, owned by George Brannon, Tryon, North Carolina; Hi Team, owned by Mrs. R. E. L. Wilson UX, Wilson, Ark.; Princess Bug, owned by Harry Rhett, Huntsville, Ala.
