GALLIES PRIDE raced SELECTIVE into defeat to assume a clear lead after a half mile, shortened stride while tiring inside the stretch, but had enough left to withstand the belated challenge of GOLDEN ARIA. The latter came fast after being . straightened for the drive and steadily was wearing down the leader. SEPTEMBER, far back early, closed a gap in a sharp effort. FLYING TUCK raced evenly through the late stages without mishap. WHIRLS BELL and ATTENTIVE never were dangerous. ANNAMAE L. was unable to keep jip. SELECTIVE quit MARIE-GILBERT was outrun. PETEY WEE alternated in pressing and setting the early pace, held a slight lead when settled for the stretch run and in a long drive outgamed PAY THE PIPER. The latter, a sharp factor from the start, was unable to overtake the winner when hard hustled through the late stages, but easily prevailed over the others. GRAND FIND drifted out extremely wide on. the turn and was unable to seriously endanger the leaders after being straightened for the drive. EARLY FOOT lacked a rally. GALLANT SPEED was carried out on the turn by GRAND FIND and failed to recover. ELAN began tardily. TREPHINE showed nothing. Scratched 201014 Caretaker, 114; 19870 Pitlochry, 107. SEVEN SPADES steadily improved his position to take command nearing the furlong marker and gradually increased his advantage thereafter when fully extended.. He returned in a decidedly lame condition and was compelled to be dismounted before reaching the winners circle. ETERNAL MIKE held sway for a half mile under hustling tactics, was unable to cope with the winner during the late stages, but held on willingly to outgame PINK SANDS. The latter raced forwardly throughout, but lacked the necessary rally. UNCHARTED rallied too belatedly to endanger the top ones. BARBOURSVILLE tired when punished. MISS TEASE quit MORANS BAY lacked early foot. BUSY BLUES was through early. MARTIAL SONG, knocked back immediately after the start, was unable to recover. ACONITE never threatened. BLESS PAT raced in closest pursuit of FLEETS DELITE for a half mile, took command with a rush when ready entering the stretch and increased her advantage under brisk urging. FIRST FLOWER, never far back, came to the middle of the track for the drive, but was not good enough. MISTY MORN failed to sufficiently respond when called upon for her best effort. FLEETS DELITE, much used early, had little left. ESCA LASS raced wide. GEOMETRIC and RINGSIDE never were formidable. SERVICESTAR showed nothing. Scratched New Melody, 116. COVETED assumed a clear lead during the early running, gave way momentarily to KING COMMANDER after completing the final fence, but came again under adept handling to gain the decision. KING COMMANDER raced within striking distance of the early leaders, came overxslightly on IMBURSED while lugging in leaving the final turn, responded to urging to reach the lead at the final jump, but tired thereafter and was unable to hold the winner. A claim of foul against KING COMMANDER by the rider of IMBURSED for interference at the next to last fence was not allowed. IMBURSED raced forwardly placed to the near turn, -was forced to take jup when impeded by KING COMMANDER and failed to recover. PRINCIPIO held sway to the stretch under steady rating, then faltered when punished. LAFOURCHE failed to make up appreciable ground. LONE EAGLE raced wide. ACTIVE DUTY saved ground to no avail.
