Mr. Skip Victorious In Dr. Ensor Purse Whips Celandine by Neck at ThistleDown; Physician and Owner Is Honored by Track THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio., June 15. Norman S. Scavas Mr. Skip, a stakes winning son of Blenban, came from far back to score a neck decision over G. J. Burns Celandine in this afternoons featured Dr. Wilmer C. Ensor Purse. Mr. and Mrs. James L. Coles Hot Cakes was third another length and half back and a nose in front of Mrs. Jenny Simons The Trooper. Jockey Joseph Servis rode an excellent race aboard the winner judging v,he pace to perfection. He did not make a move until he had reached the furlong marker. Mr. Skip, winner of last years Great Lakes Stakes at Randall Park, paid 4.20 and was timed in an excellent 1:.1. He is one of the leading local candidates for the 5,000-added ThistleDown Cup to be run here on July 17. It was another unbearably hot day in this area. However a good crowd of nearly 4,800 attended the eight-race program. Two favorites had been successful through the sixth race. Celebrating 50th Wedding Anniversary ThistleDown honored Dr. Ensor here this afternoon by naming the feature for the 75-year-old physician who is celebrating , his 50th wedding anniversary today. Ensor j was not represented in the race named for his honor, but he did witness his silks carried to victory in the fifth race when Love Lock scored. Managing director Lou Pondfield was in the winners enclosure and presented the popular Marylander with a gift from the association. Mr. Skip was last leaving the gate and after the first quarter of a mile his position was the same. Celandine, with Donal Bow- j cut up, moved from the outside to gain the lead soon after the start and was show- j ing the way by a length and a half midway i along the backstrech. The Trooper was second and Hot Cakes third with Skin Junior fourth. j Celandine was still in front, but only by a half length as the field darted around the. far turn. Hot Cakes moving with authority was now second and loomed the most dangerous. The Trooper had dropped back a notch and Skin Junior was still holding down fourth position. Mr. Skip wasnow fifth a head in front by Ky. River. Racing into the straightaway Celendine shook Hot Cakes loose and had once again drew clear by a length and a half. Hot Cakes was still second and The Trooper third. Mr. Skip was on the outside and just beginning to move. With about a sixteenth of a mile left it was quite apparent that it was going to be a terrific two-horse battle the remainder of the trip between Mr. Skip and the pacesetter. Celandine held on doggedly through the late stretch, but-Mr. Skip under Servis skillful handling was not to be denied.
