49ers Sign Three Rookies SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 15 UP. Three more rookies from the 1953 draft crop today were signed to 1954 San Francisco Forty-Niner football contracts. Topping the group is John Skocko, a 217-pound end from the San Diego Navy team, who used to play Tor University of Southern California. He originally hailed from Watsonville, Calif. The others are Ed Gossage, 205, captain and offensive guard from last years fine Georgia Tech squad that won the Sugar Bowl title; and John Piatt, 215-pound halfback from little Elon College in North Carolina.
