Red Sox slugger Ted Williams, still confined to his hotel suite with a heavy cold, said today he hopes to be back in the Boston line-up "at least by this week end." Williams, out of action since June 6 with a virus infection in his, right lung that approached pneumonia at one stage, was able to sit up today and told newsmen "I expect Ill be able to get back in there by the week end." Dr Lamphier reported today Williams is "still weak and not able to leave his room." "Ted told me this morning that he felt better, and we have high hopes hell be able to rejoin the team this week end." Boston was scheduled to play Cleveland this week end, followed by a two-game series with Baltimore, starting Tuesday. Dr. Lamphier said the ailing left fielder started hand exercises today with a set of braces to keep his muscles conditioned. Williams has left his hotel room only to go to a consulting physicians office for X-rays, which showed bronchial markings on his right lung. Lamphier said no date would be set for his return to the line-up until Williams progress is checked in the next few days.
