Cleveland City Council Pays Honor to Silberman Racing, Football Mogul Cited For His Crusade Against Cancer CLEVELAND, Ohio, June 15. The Cleveland City Council paid honor to Saul Silberman on Monday evening for his generous contributions over the past five years to cancer research. At a dinner of the council and administration officials at the Hickory Grill, Silberman was presented with a gold-faced plaque citing him for "outstanding and meritorious service in the crusade against cancer." At the same time, Silberman, who is a major stock holder in the Cleveland Browns, as well as Painesville, Randall and Tropical Parks, announced that he will donate ,000 to this years councilmens charity soft ball game drive. About 50 of the citys top officials gathered to pay tribute to Silberman, who has been a major supporter of the annual soft ball game since its inception five years ago. Mayor Anthony Celebrezze, in one of the evenings main speeches, described Silberman as a distinguished gentleman being honored for his kindness. "There is no human endeavor," the mayor said, "higher than the efforts of one human being to help another. That is the effort which Saul Silberman has made with his charities and for that we honor him." In his response, Silberman told the group a little of the legislative problems horse racing faces and assured his audience that "racing is a business a highly ethical business and does not deserve to be picked on." - ; ,
