Royal Vale Starts Today In Delaware Park Sprint Handicap Star Has Repetoire, Late Model, Acefull as Rivals By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 15. Mrs. J. R. H. Thourons Royal Vale, whose major objective at this time is a repeat victory in the 5,000-added Sussex Handicap, launches his local campaign Wednesday in the featured Royal Gem II. Purse. The English-bred six-year-old will be opposed at the six-furlong distance by Stanley C. Mikells Repetoire, Mrs. Chester A. Lyons Penocc, Cary C. Boshamers Late Model, and P. Ambrose Clarks Acefull. Vale, who last season earned 215,825 while registering victories in the iami Beach, Bowie, Gallant Fox, Dixie, assachusetts and Sussex handicaps, as ell as in the Foreign Bred Stakes, gained Royal ren greater recognition in defeat. He was vice beaten narrowly by Greentree Stables om Fool, the occasions being the Metro-alitan and Suburban handicaps. Continued from Page One formance in the Sussex Handicap, in which he established a mile and a quarter track record of 2:00, will long be remembered by racegoers in this sector. In nine starts this year, Royal Vale is without a stakes success, his lone victory coming in an overnight handicap event in New York. He has, however, been second in the Miami Bestch and Hialeah Turf handicaps, as well as the Valley Forge, and finished third in the Massachusetts. His local training has been splendid, his half mile in :48 this morning being preceded by a six-furlong move in 1:13 last Saturday. He will be ridden by his regular rider, Jack Westrope. While Royal Vale is admittedly the name horse in the Royal Gem II., he may be forced to bow to Repetoire in public support. This Happy Argo six-year-old, who hadnt won in over two years, turned in a dazzling victory last week while winning by five lengths in 1:10. That performance could make him the favorite, and possibly the winner, over Royal Vale. Late Model and Acefull were second and third, respectively, behind Repetoire last week, and there is little reason to suspect that they will match that ones speed Wednesday. Late Model was turning in her best race of the year, as was Acefull, who had raced but once previously this season. Penocc, who earned close to 0,000 last year with a record which included a quintet of sprint victories, has failed to display such form to date this term. He, too, has failed to win to date, his top performance coming in his most recent essay, in which he was a length and a half behind Cinda in lx:ll flat.
