MIDWEST raced slightly wide while pressing the pace, wrested command on the stretch turn and gradually drew clear. AMPHISPIRIT was unable to contend early, but came to the middle of the course rallying on the final turn and finished with a rush. PIQUANETTE lost ground racing on the outside of horses and lacked a closing rally. MONACOAN found room between horses for the stretch drive, but could not get up. GHOST RIDER was formidably placed from the beginning, assumed command with authority when ready and held SHINING JEFF safe. The latter broke slowly and was under restraint racing up behind horses in the early stages, then was guided to the outside and finished with an impressive rush. TEANECKER was in hand running up behind the first flight at the far turn, saved ground finding room to improve position and finished well. PRINCE POGO began well, but dropped back at the far turn, then responded to urging in the stretch and was coming again. ARADAC could not shake off the early contention and faltered. LE JOUR was snugly rated next to the pace, quickly raced to the front from the inside at the head of the stretch and won going away from SHERIFF MEEHAN. The latter, continuing to race greenly, broke slowly, made a bold bid on the stretch turn despite losing ground circling rivals, then attempted to lug in through the stretch and had to be intermittently taken in hand. LADY ALIBI raced prominently placed in a good effort. BATTLEWORN lacked room racing up behind horses on the stretch turn and did not menace when clear. EXPLETIVE fashioned a slow early pace under smart rating, then responded determinedly to the increased pressure of the final drive and held the opposition safe. FAGA-LA raced along evenly while clear of rivals and in closest attendance to the winner, made a game attempt when set down in the last quarter-mile, but was not good enough. MY TRULY FAIR, held off of the early pace, easily made an impressive run into contention next to the rail down the backstretch and appeared ready to threaten the top pair, but could not match the increased pace in the drive. BESSIES BEAU was under light pressure throughout. PASATIEMPO was taken back from the leaders in the opening quarter-mile and did not respond when called upon. FIRST was confidently reserved to the stretch, quickly overhauled the readers in the stretch to draw away and, although under punishment, appeared to be under a tight rein. DARN outbroke the field, resisted challenges from SCUD while trying to bear out on the final turn, then offered no argument when headed by the winner. BLUE FOG raced forwardly placed on the outside and finished well. BOY DAMOUR lacked speed away from the gate, lost distance circling horses and closed well in a good effort. OPERA LIGHT was well placed early, but dropped back being forced wide on the stretch turn by HANWAR, then closed determinedly in the final stages and bested that rival. HANWAR bore out on the turn, but continued gamely and finished well. NIGHT BAKER lacked early speed, then saved ground with a belated bid. PINE CONE could not shake off contention when put to pressure after a half mile and faltered. WOODLANDS was briskly ridden showing speed into the last eighth and had nothing left at the end. AL FAHEY was steered around horses entering the stretch and finished gamely to draw clear of the others. VALLEY KING was intermittently punished showing early speed, dropped back being given a breather on the turn, then made a brief stretch bid and weakened. TOY FOX broke slowly, was very fortunate finding clear racing next to the rail and steadily wore down the leaders to take command at the far turn, increased his advantage into the stretch, but was tiring at the end. PINOSTRES improved his position racing on the outside and could not get up YARDMASTER worked forwardly between horses, was steered to the inside for the finish and closed well. ROCKY REEF was allowed to drop back from the pace down the backstretch, appeared mildly dangerous when roused for the final run, but hung. TONY PAT, JR. lost considerable distance racing on the outside. FURRY FRIEND was outrun. APSLEY quit after six furlongs.
