Big Money in Nice Spot For ThistleDown Score Scratched Yesterday in Fayor Of Engagement in Mentor Purse THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 21. — The Mentor Purse at six furlongs will bring out a field of seven "non-winners this year" in the featured race on Tuesday. The estate of Samuel D. Riddles Big Money, a good-looking son of Bull Lea, heads the field that lias been named to face starter Eric Blind. Others slated to jitreLNorthDisPeteAl- Kendricks Purse on Monday, but trainer Lloyd Gentry passed that race up in favor of the Mentor, which looks like a much easier race for the horse. Big Money ran once here since the meeting opened and finished seventh, beaten five lengths, in the Moses Cleaveland Handicap. In that race Big Money did not show his usual good lick away from the barrier and broke rather sluggishly. He did, however, join the pace along the backstretch and then flattened out when the real racing began. Last season Big Money won five times and was in the money an additional seven times in 14 trips to the post. The majority of his better races were tallied here at ThistleDown and at Randall Park. R. Aiellos Lord North, six-year-old son initial Cleveland outing, Lord North was third to Cajole, beaten only two lengths. Then, on June 16, he was fourth to The Veep at six furlongs. In that race the horse loomed a definite factor on the turns and then, entering the stretch, bore out somewhat and then tired through the final sixteenth of a mile. Lord North was shipped here from Canada. Last season he won four times and collected nearly ,000 in purses. Mr. and Mrs. James L. Coles Hot Cakes ran up against Mr. Skip the last time she was entered and wound up third, beaten a length and three parts, after racing in the first flight from the beginning. She has speed from the gate, but it is doubtful if she will be able to outrun Big Money in he_eariy going. land before making the trip into Ohio but has found the going tough out here. Rock Cottage was a winner last year and will be making his first start of the current meeting. Albemarle and Dis Pete showed little in previous races over this track.
