Vagabond King Tops Dolton Sextet Walmac Homebred Consistent Runner Won 50 Per Cent of Races During 1953-54; Ladies Day Lincoln Fields Card LINCOLN FIELDS, Crete, HI., June 21.— Two days of racing remain before the Lincoln Fields Association rings down the curtain on its 1954 homecoming meeting, which began on May 20 and ends Wednesday with the inaugural running of the one-mile 0,000 Au Reyoir Handicap. The penultimate program on Tuesday, which, incidentally, is ladies day;, has as its feature attraction the Doltori Purse at seven furlongs for four-year-olds and older horses. Six have been named to compete. One of the probable starters is Walmac Farms four-year-old colt, Vagabond King, a nominee for the Au Revoir Handicap,, for which he has been weighted at 109 pounds. The conditions of the Dolton tomorrow require him to carry 120, which will include jockey Arnold Kirkland. This is the same weight to be carried by J. J. Lombardos five-year-old gelding, Whirlahead. Vagabond King has never failed to garner part of the purse in each race for which he has started in the past two seasons. Last year the chestnut son of Alibhai — Glass Slipper won three of his six starts, was second twice, fourth once. He has started only twice this year, winning the first at Churchill Downs on May 12 by a length and a half over Ever Bright, with Smackover third, Futuramic fourth. On June 12, he made his only start at Lincoln Fields, finishing fourth to Heutel, Screemin Jack and Living Doll. Whirlahead Two-Time Winner in 54 Whirlahead has won twice this year, on March 26 and May 1, which is an improvement over his 1953 record, although the Whirlaway gelding formerly ran in stakes on oecasion. Besides each other, Vagabond King and Whirlahead find their opposition in the Dolton consisting of four fillies and mares. One of the fillies, Breadwinner, owned by West Wind Farm, has been what her name implies. She was unplaced to Sun David, a stablemate of Vagabond King, in her only start this year, but last season won seven races and placed in six others._ The daughter of Sir Mill — June Blenheim" was bred at the Kentucky farm of the former Ohio judge and one-time state racing commissioner, Garrett S. Claypool. The other four-year-old filly in the race is N. P. Dispenzas Cheriful, winner of one race this season after chalking up five wins and placing six times last year. In her latest effort she was fourth to Platitude here on June 12. She carries 109 pounds and will be ridden by jockey Don Wagner. Completing the field are Martin and Mc-Kinneys Night-Phara and Virginia Shwabs Vixen Fixit, a couple of five-year-old mares. The former won here on June 10 for her first success of the season, although she had previously finished third to such accomplished winners as Fulvous and Paytu. She is a bay by Pharamond n., her dam being the one-time popular Shine ONight, twice winner of the Arlington Matron Handicap and other races. Vixen Fixit has started three times this yearj twice here at Lincoln Fields. In her first of these she was third to Mimi Mine, then finished fourth behind Sun David, Smackover and Warless. • On Tuesday, ladies will be admitted to the grandstand on payment of the state tax only, which is 20 cents.
