Royal Coinage is well staked not only in New York but in New Jersey and his next appearance under colors could be in the Great American. Jockey Eddie Arcaro will ride Sunshine Nell, owned by Meyer J. Kaplan, in the Distaff Handicap one week hence . . . Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Heller, who race under the nom de course of the Lester Manor Stable, will leave for Kentucky next week en route to Hollywood Park for some racing. They plan to be back for the Saratoga season. Trainer Sid Jacobs plans to ship the juvenile Right Down, who races in his interest, here from New Jersey for his engagement in the Tremont Stakes . . . Closed Door, owned by the Jaclyn Stable of Leon Levy, will be shipped here for his engagement in the Edgemere Handicap over the week end . . . J. W. Rodgers, the Memphis, Tenn., patron, accom panied a party of friends, arrived for the running of the Shevlin Stakes in which he was represented by Due de Fer. The three-year-old will be returned to Monmouth Park following his engagement . . . Jimmie Donn came out for the big week end to represent Gulfstream Park. He plans to remain in this area for another couple of weeks. Louis Glick, the candy making man, deserted the sweet tooth department for the afternoon and a look-see at the infield lake . . . James and. Jock McCue of the Brae Burn Farm were among those present for the afternoon . . . Mr. and Mrs. Laudy Lawrence returned from a trip to Denver, where they visited their daughter, and on Thursday will fly to their Paris, France, home. He has some horses in training at Chantilly and a draft here with Maje Odom . . . Jockey Jorge Contreras was saddened by the news from Miami of the death of his four-day-old son in the Coral Gables Hospital. The sympathies of his fellow riders, trainers and racing men were extended ... Major John Nethersole, former inspector of courses for the English Jockey Club, will leave for Western Canada next week. He was invited to serve as a steward at several meetings in those provinces. Frank Hague, the Jerseyite, was counted among those present Saturday ... Georgie Jessel, of the amusement world, came out to say hello and report that everything was okay ... Emil Arnold, who has several horses with Phil Bieber, was among those present ... Native Dancer may start galloping the latter part of this week said trainer Bill Winfrey. The A. G. Vanderbilt star is coming along nicely following a. recent setback . . . Jockey Logan Batchellor checked in to ride one mount, Puc de Fer, and then returned to the Jersey scene. Trainer George M. Odom resumed his duties this morning at Belmont Park, training the horses he has for several patrons. He underwent a physical and had several cardiographs taken at the Bryn Mawr, Pait hospital last week . . . The statistical department put in a busy week end and then breathlessly reported that the play and attendance was up, this time io per cent, over the corresponding period of last summer. This meant that the crying towels were returned to the mothballs for a spell ... Randall Park, out Cleveland way, will feature some turf races at that meeting with the Chagrin Valley Turf Handicap, with 10 grand added, as" the top line offering % . . Trainer Tommy Root will ship White Skies, owned by W. "M. Wickham, here from Monmouth Park for his engagement in the Carter Handicap . . . The date for the running of the Florida Derby at Gulfstream next March Is Saturday, March 26. The event will carry the usual 100 grand purse. * 1
