0,000 Michigan Mile Attracts Fine Roster of Seventy-Eight Nominations White Skies, Find, Sickles Image, Royal Vale, Pictus, May Vie at Detroit Course By DON FAlft Staff Correspondent DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 21.— The 0,000 Michigan Mile, an alowance stake for three-year-olds and upward, which is to have its fourth renewal here on Saturday, July 10, attracted a bumper list of 78 nominations, according to the release late Sunday by racing secre-tary-handicapper Charles J. McLennan. The Michigan Mile, richest race in the Wolverine States thoroughbred history, had its inaugural at the old Fair Grounds in 1949 and fell to Harry Trotseks Sir Sprite. Subsequent runnings went to Carl Grahams Fancy Flyer, Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffers Bully Boy, and Theodore D. Buhls Second Avenue, successful in last years edition of the eight-furlong fixture. Among the outstanding candidates for the forthcoming Michigan Mile? are W. M. — y Wickhams White Skies, who has raced exceptionally well during an arduous Eastern campaign; Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Find, who shipped west last year to capture the Ohio Derby at ThistleDown; Ralph: Lowes Pictus, already on the local scene; Sam E. Wilson, Jr.s, Gushing Oil, and Fred B. Pohl, Jr.s, Irish-bred, Bay Bloom. Also Mrs. Joseph Tomlinsons Canadian-owned stakes winner, Chain Reaction; Mrs. J. R. H. Thourons Royal Vale and War of Roses; Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Martins Phil D., and Clarence Hartwicks Sickles Image, 1953 "Mare of the Year," who raced disappointingly last week end in the Rose Leaves Stakes. Mr. and Mrs. Allie Reuben, Toledo, Ohio, patrons, named six horses for the local stake, including Pomace, Sea O Erin, and the Argentine-bred, Mister Black, while Mrs. Dodge Sloans Brookmeade Stable sent along four Michigan Mile entries, Capeador, First Aid, War King and Tritium.
