Royal Donna Set Back -From Second to Third Disqualification at River Downs; Fernandez Wins in One Stirrup By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 21. — Another delightful day for racing was in store for the upward of 4,000 fans on hand for todays blue Monday card. The first disqualification of the River Downs meeting took place in todays second race. Jockey Anthony Licata, who finished third on Mrs. M. J. Hoydics Sir Thet to Mrs. G. Clarks White Blaze and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Maxwells Royal Donna, lodged an objection against apprentice B. Brinkley and the latter. Considerably impeded by Royal Donna in the stretch run, Licata and Sir Thet were awarded the place honors. The Daily Double here this afternoon was a three-three combination made up by Mrs. H. B. Delmans Gay Whirl in the opener and Mrs. G. Clarks White Blaze. It was worth 1.00 to each Daily Double ticketholder. In the fourth race jockey J. C. Fernandez executed one of the strongest rides ever witnessed at this course astride Oatburner. He guided the winner for the final three-sixteenths of a mile with but one stirrup iron and while looking rather lopsided as he crossed the finish line he was able to maintain a three-quarters of a length advantage over Kirk and Burgers Peanut Brier. Fernandez was on top at the break and midway of the turn when shifting his , weight to keep the Crossbow n. horse from going out a: bit, his stirrup broke.
