Cross Ring Never Headed In Sprint at ThistleDown Hits Wire Three Lengths Before ColumcilWith Shag Tails Third By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 21.— After having finished second in two previous races over the track, Olin Sledges Cross Ring, ridden by Ralph Bor-gemenke, scored a three-length decision over Mrs. Gladys H. Fishbacks Columcille in this afternoons featured Jack Ken-dricks Purse. Third, a half length back at the end of the five and one-half furlongs, was the favored Shag Tails, who could not gain sufficient racing room entering the stretch. Cross Ring, a gelded son of Charing Cross — Makann, was winning for the third time this season and paid .60 as the second choice. He was timed in 1:04%, which is a second over Fly Lelias track record. A fine Monday crowd of over 5,000 attended the races on a scorching afternoon. Gennis Ballydam was withdrawn by trainer Frank Fitzgerald when he pulled up badly this morning after being blown out for this race. Cross Ring was first to show in front at the start with Seaflash second and Mor-Snoozey in third position. Cross Ring was in front by a length after the opening quarter with Seaflash on the outside second and Columcille in along the rail in third position another half length in arrears. Yea Bama was now fourth and Charley Foy, fifth. The ultimate winner increased his advantage on the turns and was showing the way by two lengths with Columcille now second and Charley Foy also moving oh the inside in third position. Shag Tails, between horses, was now in sixth position. At the furlong marker there was some jamming in the pack, but Cross Ring had a comfortable lead and passed that point in front by two lengths. Columcille also stayed clear of trouble and was still second. Shaw Tails was in close quarters at that point and so was Charley Foy. The latters difficulty may have been caused by the favorite who was desperately trying to find racing room. Draws Clear In the final sixteenth of a mile under Borgemenkes mild urging, Cross Ring drew clear by another length and Columcille lacked the necessary rally winding up second. Shag Tails got clear in the late stretch wound up third. Charley Foy was not quite as lucky and was "off the board." The fifth race was taken by Edward A. Simpsons Legate, his second winning race of the meeting. Duke Aumar was second and County Gossip third at the end of the six furlongs. The winner was ridden by Al Widman and paid .60. Being timed in 1:11, flat, one of the fastest races of the session. The Trooper was claimed out of this race by the Dorchester Farm Stable for ,500 which is believed to be a record claim in teh State of Ohio. A. B. Karles Ohio Derby prospect, Tyner, scored a game half-length victory over W. J. Sprows Renoir, who reached the wire another half-length before his stablemate.l | Rerbert E. Simpsons Burnt Child.
