MURPHY WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., June 17- The largest field ever to compete on a race track in Chicago may go to the post in the 0,000 added Chicagoan here Saturday. Twenty - four three - year - olds were named for the event when the entries closed Thursday, and although several withdrawals are expected, the band of participants may number 19 or 20. Each starter will carry 114 pounds, and Traffic Judge, owned by Clifford Mooers, is looked upon as the favorite, with Make Ready, who will race for Dixiana, and Hilton Dab-sons Nances Lad as the logical second choices. Others rather highly regarded are the Hasty House Farm entry of Prince Noor, Alibilt and Summer Solstice, and the W L Ranch sophomore Honeys Alibi. The distance of the Chicagoan, which is being run for the first time, will be one mile and if 22 runners, the maximum of the starting gate, parade, the race will gross 5,000 and the net to the winner, will be 1,900. Others in Field Aside from those mentioned above, the following are listed in the field: Sam E. Wilsons Top Traffic, Y. and O. Stables Charles A., C. F. Morriss Munchausen, the Fairway Farm entry of Big Broadcast and Hi Jet, Mrs. A. M. Creechs Styrunner, E. He won the Prairie State Stakes at this oval. The son of Alibhai started off his three-year-oj year being unplaced in an allowance affair at Jamaica in April. He Continued on Page Seven Twenty-Four Sophomores in Balmorals 5,000 Chicagoan at Mile Distance Traffic Judge Clashes With Nances Lad, Make Ready in Final Feature at Homewood Continued from Page One then won a sprint, was 10th in the Delaware Valley Stakes and scored two straight victories, including the Withers. Eric Guerin, who handled Traffic Judge in the Preakness, will fly from New York to again guide him. Traffic Judge will break from advantageous number two position. Make Ready has won five of his 10 starts thisyear, including a pair of one mile races at the current meeting. He was fourth 4n the Blue Grass Stakes and fifth in the Louisiana Derby. The son of Shannon n. started but once in 1954 and finished third. He will have Steve Brooks, leading jockey at the meeting, in the saddle and has drawn a post position well on the outside, 15th, to be exact. Nances Lad comes into the Chicagoan with a splendid record. He was winner of the Hutcheson and Fountain of Youth Handicaps at Gulfstream Park and later scored in the Swift Stakes and the Peter Pan at Belmont. He was second behind Traffic Judge in the Withers and finished fourth in the Preakness. His score in the Peter Pan was at one and one-eighth miles. Nances Lad drew the inside post position and will be ridden by John Choquette, his regular jockey. Hasty House Farm is starting a trio of thoroughbreds on which no true line has been obtained as yet. Since his last start, which was in the Kentucky Derby Trial in which he finished sixth, Prince Noor has been altered and that may improve his temperament. He finished seventh in both the Florida and Louisiana Derbys and has one" victory in eight starts this year. Summer Solstice made his American debut a couple of weeks ago and easily won a six-furlong race on the grass. He raced rather greenly in that. Last year the colt won five of his seven starts in England. Alibilt was off poorly in his last start here. John Adams, stable jockey, will have the mount on Summer Solstice. Blue Lem gained a .measure of prestige when he finished a neck back of Nashua in the Florida Derby on a sloppy track. He has but one victory in 10 starts this year, but was third in the Fountain of Youth and fourth in the Flamingo and, eighth in the Kentucky Derby. Munchausen, who won a division of the Primer Stakes at Arlington Park last season, will be making his third start at this meeting and his first stakes venture since finishing third in the Blue Grass Stakes. His triumph here was scored at seven furlongs. William McKinley Cook will be Munchausens rider and he will break from No. 6 post position. Honeys Alibi was second back of Speed : Rouser in his first start at Balmoral. He finished fifth in the Preakness after having won the Preakness Prep. Has had 14 outings this year. He will break from the 21st stall. Fleet Path was fourth in the event taken by Speed Rouser, was second to Honeys Alibi in the Preakness Prep, and sixth in the Preakness. His lone score this year was at Laurel. Speed Rouser has had four scores in nine starts this yqar and his best stakes effort was a second in the Louisiana Derby. Dogoon won the George Woolf Memorial here last year and hasa first and second to show for two starts this season. Styrun-ner has been victorious at Churchil Downs and Detroit; Trim Destiny won the Arkansas Derby and Top Traffic, River Gate, Roman Senator, Hi Jet, and Foxy Ned all won at Balmoral.
