Imp Handicap Attracts Twelve at ThistleDown Solar System-Our Only One Duo Vies With Wolf Gal and Subita By J. R. BATTY Staff Correspondent THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 17. The Imp Handicap, honoring the "Coal Black Lady" who recently was polled one of the 10 best race mares in American history and unquestionably the best thoroughbred ever produced in the state of Ohio, attracted the entry of a dozen fillies and mares to contest the second renewal" of this ,000 added sprint of six furlongs here Saturday. In addition to the Imp, two other handicaps are carded among the nine races for Saturday. The third of the Ohio Presidents Series attracted a dozen routers to vie at one and a half miles and this -Endurance test will be decided as the final race. Listed as the seventh race is a handicap for three-year-olds and older horses and eight starters are named to go one and a sixteenth miles for a prize of ,000. It is an exceptionally good program, and even the weatherman has promised to cooperate and the races should be conducted over a firm, dry strip. Mrs.L. L. Solar System appeared once under silks at the current meeting and was unsuccessful attempting to concede six pounds to "Wolf Gal. The latter picks up four pounds over the burden she toted when defeating Solar System by slightly less than a length going the same distance as requested Saturday and oyer a fast track. A four-year-old daughter of Air Hero Scottswoods and bred by her owner, Solar System might have been a trifle short of peak condition for her initial try here and since has turned in several commendable morning trials. Last season she won five races from 13 starts and local turfites saw her chalk up these tallies at ThistleDown and Randall Park. While Wolf Gal has mingled with claiming companions as recently as a month ago, she is. a useful sort of performer although probably not regarded as always reliable. A Florida-bred four-year-old daughter of Samurai Leonardtfflpn, Wolf Gal won 9,888, most of it realized from six victories, and her recent winning effort might have indicated she is again at peak condition and could offer stern opposition for top laurels in the Imp. Subita, owned by Dorchester Farm Stable, is rated one pound less than Solar System and this four-year-old daughter of Fast and Fair Lady Bahram must be accorded a chance of registering her first victory of the current season competing in this dash. She appeared under silks at this meeting but once and was a disappointing choice when fourth after breaking to disadvantage.
