Davidson Memorial ; Brings Out Eight Go-Ye-Far, Cross Ring and Butch K. Closely Weighted For Handicap at Ak-Sar-Ben By PAT CATJDILL Stafj Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 17. The J. E. Davidson Memorial Handicap, offering ,000 in added money for three-year-olds and upward at the sprint distance of six furlongs, has drawn eight starters and highlights an excellent program arranged by racing secretary Kenneth W. Mcintosh for presentation here Saturday. Glenn Murphys Go-Ye-Far, to be handled by jockey Billy Powell, and Olin Sledges Cross Ring, with jockey Richard Lawless to handle the reins, share equal top imposts of 117 pounds with Guy and Walter Shultz Butch K. rated closely behind with 116. The latter will be ridden by jockey Harold Featherston, who has handled him in each of his previous outings at this meeting. The field has drawn the select sprinters on the grounds and in addition to the aforementioned trio are such speedsters as E. K. Careys English Lad, weighted at 112 pounds with jockey Sonny Ray Williams to do the riding; P. J. Neals Lucky Post, a three-time winner at this meeting who gets in with 109 and has jockey Jay Fishburn named as the rider; J. W. Coopers much raced during this meeting, Undone, 108, with jockey Eddie Burns; Ed Luthers The Snapper, 106, to have the services of jockey Robert Mundorf and J. H. Thatchers My Lovely, the lightest weight of the group with 105 pounds, with no rider named at entry time. Trio to Attract Most Play Go-Ye-Far, Cross Ring and Butch K. appear the trio from which the post-time favorite should come but appear so evenly matched it is difficult to determine which one will play the role. Go-Ye-Far has chalked up seven victories this year earning upwards of 4,000 and his last outing here saw him turn back a speedy band in the Flying Farmers Purse on June 7. He was defeated narrowly in the Ak-Sar-Ben Inaugural Purse by Cross Ring, who has been unable to grace the winners circle since in two attempts but has turned in sharp efforts in each of his tries. The long-time favorite of local fans, Butch K., was unplaced in last Saturdays Ak-Sar-Ben but is likely to lose few of his followers as the eight-year-old campaigner is certainly one of the most consistent racers to have performed in this area for years having, been in the money in all but two of his last 21 starts. On June 4 he easily accounted for the Ak-Sar-Ben Governors Handicap at six furlongs and beat a field Including Cross Ring, The Snapper and Undone. The Citation Purse, an allowance event at one mile and one-sixteenth with a purse of ,000, is carded as the seventh race and will bring together a good band of eight starters with I. R. Salleys Mr. Favor, who has been racing in the handicap division here, appearing nicely placed to earn his first victory of the meeting. The program also includes the Northeastern Nebraska Press Association Purse, carded as the fifth race with 10 platers named to go the longer route of one mile and one-half, the longest event to have been decided at this meeting. George Beckers Hydraulic, to be ridden by jockey Fritz Becker, can be expected to receive the major portion of support from the wagering fans.
