Eleven Entered for Shevlin Stakes Bunnys Babe; Westward Ho; Georgian in 0,300 Field Bixer Colt Might Provide Nashuas Competition for Dwyer Running Next Month By BOB HORWOOD Staff Correspondent AQUEDUCT, L. I N. Y., June. 17. The Shevlin Stakes, a seven-furlong event for three-year-olds that could conceivably bring out a serious challenger to Nashua in the rich Dwyer Stakes at a mile and a quarter on July 2, will have its 28th running here tomorrow. The chief interest in this event lies in the presence of Col. E. P. Bixers Bunnys Babe. This gray son of Attention scored impressively here on Monday at six furlongs, storming through the stretch to beat a field that included three of those he meets tomorrow. Sent Back in Jersey Breeders Stakes Making up the field of eleven, which will gross 0,300 if all start, are Breckinridge Longs Westward Ho, Hal Price Headleys Georgian, Woodley Lane Farms Blue Quest, Wheatley Stables Dark Ruler, Greentree Stables Gold Box, Meadowhill Farms Hartsville, Samuel A. Pecks Ever Best, Mrs. E. H. Augustus Informant, Maine Chance Farms Jets War Date, and Douglas R. Smalls Aeschylus. While his recent overnight victory, and another, should it materialize, in the Shevlin hardly qualifies Bunnys Babe as a serious adversary for Nashua, it might be worth remembering that but for a bit of bad luck Sol Rutchicks charge might have beaten the Belair Stud colt in last years Cowdin. In that six and a half furlongs here at Aqueduct, Bunnys Babe finished third to Summer Tan and Nashua, but undoubtedly would have made things very interesting had he not been cut down at the stretch turn. The colt was sent back in the New Jer- sey Breeders Stakes before that injury had fully healed, and while he won that event ; on the disqualification of Blue Sparkler he also aggravated his injury to an extent - that he was unable to fill any of his classic engagements this spring. Bill Boland has been assigned to ride Bunnys Babe at 111 pounds, the same impost that will be carried-by all the others with the exceptions of Westward Ho, 120, and Georgian, 116 pounds. Bunnys Babe should be a stout choice on the strength of his impressive score for his second outing of the year. The trio that chased Bunnys Babe last week is composed of Blue Quest, Dark Ruler and Gold Box. Blue Quest came from last place in the small field to be second, two lengths behind Bunnys Babe and almost a length before Dark Ruler, while Gold Box, the odds-on choice, was a disappointing fourth, another length and a half in arrears. Westward Ho, a son of Lochinvar, who has yet to sire a really good horse, won the Kent Stakes at Delaware last out, beating the speedy Craigwood by a nose at the end of a mile and a sixteenth in a respectable 1:43 over a track that is reported to be not quite as fast as in recent years. Georgian also won his last start, beating Blue Quest five lengths at level weights at Belmont on June 7. Bunnys Babe finished last in that race, but obviously needed the effort and also was taken extremely wide at the head of the stretch. Hartsville may also be a dangerous factor in this Shevlin. The Alquest gelding soud finish no better than fourth in the Select Handicap at Monmouth last out, but Continued on Page Fifty-Seven Eleven Starters Await Test In 0,300 Shevlin Stakes Centhued item Page Three before that won a six furlongs event at Belmont Parkat the expense of the capable older sprinter, Mr. Turf. Conn McCreary will ride Georgian, while Paul J. Bailey will be on Blue Quest, Ted Atkinson will ride Gold Box, Nick Shuk will come up to pilot Westward Ho and Stanley Small will be on Hartsville. No rider has been named as yet for Dark Ruler. Aeschylus won at a mile and a sixteenth on a sloppytrack at Delaware Park on June 9 and will be ridden by Jimmy Combest. Ever Best and Informant finished a neck apart in that order behind the moderate Saremm at Belmont last Saturday, while Jets War Date showed nothing in his recent outing at Monmouth Park. If all 11 go to the post in the Shevlin, the winner will net a tidy 1,250.
