; - - War Tune Annexes Delaware Feature Cedar Farm Coifs Victory Is Among Trio of Winners Handled by Jockey Hartack DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 17. Taking full advantage of Willie Shoemakers final day of inactivity, Willie Hartack this afternoon completed a saddle double and accomplished his 178th score of the year astride Cedar Farms War Tune in the featured Fairy Palace Purse. The homebred four-year-old son of Warlock was making a belated seasonal bow and moved from off the pace to register by one length in 1:10, equaling the fastest time of the meeting. In second position was Harry E. Robinsons Thomas Pepper, who was two lengths clear of Christiana Stables Menem-: sha. A crowd of 10,799 turned out on the most humid day of the meejting and in-; stalled War Tune a .80 favorite. Hartack made it three winners for the afternoon when he guided Mrs. C. MacLeods Rioghail to a front-running victory over Pass Bon and Beckys Shirt in the seventh race, thus raising his total to 179. Hartack, who yesterday overtook Shoemaker to gain the top spot among the riders in the national standings, now boasts a five-up over his West Coast rival. His first winner on todays card was accomplished in the second race atop Eli Houghs Natchez Maid, a .00 winners who completed a 40.20 Daily Double for those who combined her with Stanley C. Mikells Lord OWar, 3.40 longshot in the opener. Divine Actress Tires In the feature the Maine Chance Farm colors made their first appearance of the meeting atop Divine Actress. This miss flattered her backers biefly by being in front, but quit badly after going three furlongs as Thomas Pepper moved to the fore pressed by Menemsha. War Tune was third along the rail at this stage and appeared ready to make his bid. Menemsha drifted out turning into the stretch and Thomas Pepper followed him sufficiently to allow War Tune to move through and assume command. Thereafter, Hartack encouraged his mount only intermittently as the two reported with a one length lead. A. G. P. Hobbs Doreens Play ran off about six furlongs while being warmed up for the feature, then caused further delay when he was fractious at the starting point and broke a piece of equipment. He was allowed to start, however, and was a distant trailer throughout. He was, incidentally, ridden by Jack Westrope, who last year was the leading rider at this meeting, but who has failed to win a single race during the first 18 days. Alan T. Clarkes Joes Jeannie, extreme outsider in the mile and a sixteenth third race, successfully negotiated that distance for the first time to return 8. The homebred Alaking Bola Mowlee filly, set a blistering pace and finished the distance in 1:44 while retaining a margin of two and one-half lengths under Con Erricos strong urging. Brandywine Stables Girl Crazy and Keystone Stables Most Charming were the other money horses.
