Accent on Speed Today In Hollywood Feature Berseem, Alidon Among Ten in Lakes and Flowers Handicap By W. A. WELUG Staff Correspondent HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., June 17. The accent will be on speed when some of the Wests most proficient sprinters meet at seven furlongs in the 8,300 Lakes and Flowers Handicap here Saturday afternoon. Ten older horses were drawn into the stake and they will be shooting at the worlds record of 1:20 which El Drag, since sidelined by an injury, set for the distance in the Crenshaw Handicap here last month. j Ready for the Lakes and Flowers are such speedsters as Abe Hirschbergs Ber-seem, topweighted at 126 pounds; Louis B. Mayers Alidon, Llangollen Farms Porterhouse,- R. C. Ellsworths Correspondent and Mr. and Mrs. John Eyrauds Karim. Also in the sprint feature are Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Richards History Book, Mrs. Rea Warners Trusting, Mr. and Mrs. J. Ross Clarks Spring Count, the W L Ranchs One Ton Tony and the Greenacres Stud Farms Herculis. Under his impost Berseem will be giving his opponents from 7 to 22 pounds, but he still is expected to rule the public choice off many fine performances he has turned in during the past couple of seasons. He made his only start here in the Premiere Handicap on opening day and in that event he was second to El Drag to whom he was conceding 16 pounds, 128 to 112. In winning that event El Drag equaled the local track record of 1:09. That effort marked Berseems first public appearance since his victory in Santa Anitas Santa Barbara Handicap. Alidon is second highweight for the Lakes and Flowers with 119 pounds. He will be shooting for his fourth stakes score of the year. In his only try here he captured the mile Argonaut Handicap in which he set a new track mark of 1:34 while beating Mister Gus, Rejected, Nova-rullah, Determine, and others. Earlier this year Alidon accounted for the Golden Gate Handicap, the San Luis Rey and Camino Real. Next on the list of weights are Porterhouse and Correspondent with 116 pounds each. In his best races this meeting Porterhouse was third in the Hollywood Premiere and second to El Drag in the Cren- Correspondent, last summers Hollywood Gold Cup winner, was triumphant in his only try of the meeting. He accounted for an overnight feature at six furlongs in which he traveled the distance in 1:09.
