Co-Favored Ferro Wins Feature at ThistleDown Ladies Day Brings Out Crowd of 5,697; Jerrys Gem Runs Fourth THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 17: Ladies Day was revived at a Cleveland track for the first time since before the war, or over a decade, when today at ThistleDown. the fair sex was admitted free. It was an experiment by the management and no future policy for Ladies Day has been announced but todays crowd of 5,697, a good share of it women, sent Ferro and Pulsator away co-choices to triumph in the sixth and featured race on the card. Ferro, owned by Courntey Burton, raced to expectations while Pulsator trailed throughout the dash . ot five and a half furlongs. Ferro took down top portion of a ,200 purse by emerging a length victor over Beau Black while another three lengths away Mighty Rip ended up third among the field of seven sprinters. A front-running victor in his previous outing here, Ferro made the pace most of the way in this jaunt and paid .60 after carrying Charley McKee over the distance in 1:05. Accomplishing the task over a dry track. Jerrys Gem, who two years ago won the Ohio Futurity at Randall Park, returned to competition after being idle since his juvenile year, encountered poor racing luck along the backstretch and finished fourth. As a two-year-old he won seven races from 13 outings and todays effort was a creditable one, taking into consideration he was blocked and struck the inside rail soon after the start. Proud Ruby, a three-year-old daughter of Southern Pride Lucky Ruby and making only the seventh start of her career, graduated from the maidens ranks by "winning the fifth race, which was styled for claiming sprinters of the ,000 valuation. Proud Ruby, owned by H. L. Freyn, responded to the whip applied by Larry Grubb and held New Dice safe by three-; quarters of a length.
