Miss Minstrel Awarded Purse at River Downs Highly Favored Miss Mary Anne Set Back to Place for Fouling RIVER DOWNS, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 17. This Ohio Valley, the location of River Downs, Inc., has had two consecutive days of ideal weather for the thoroughbred sport. It was warm and clear today with a lightning-fast racing strip and the form horses solding up remarkably well. There were upward of 5,000 fans on hand before the running of the first race, and the attendance figures were swelled considerably as the afternoon wore on. Mrs. E. Franks Miss Minstrel was declared the winner of the third race after an objection was raised against Creel Brown, Jr.s Miss Mary Anne and jockey Howard Craig. This was the first of two or three claims of foul this season that was permitted, but the alertness of the men in the stewards stand had the inquiry sign on the board before all the riders had returned with their mounts. Coming through the stretch, Craig did -everything possible to straighten out Miss Mary Anne, who had moved up on the outside of Miss Minstrel. However, his strongest handling could .not straighten out the Sir Damion filly. Who has showed a marked tendency to lug in badly in each of her recent starts. Jockey Harry Holcomb piloted Miss Minstrel and did an excellent job of averting any serious disaster while being bumped repeatedly. As the winner. Miss Minstrel, returned a .80 mutuel to those in the stand who held their breath until the announcement came that the foul had been allowed. J. Freshwaters Circulator and Luis Rivera turned in. a sizzling stretch run to be three-quarters of a length the best of J. B. Maloneys Three Boys in the opener. Coupled with the Mikel Farms Indiana Vi and apprentice John E. Carroll, the Daily Double as a 2and 9 combination, was worth 4.00.
