Jerrys Gem Fore-Running ! Winner in Thistle Sprint Bests Shrewd Tip by Two, Half Lengths; Ballynette Holds Third By PAT CADDILL THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 1. An excellent gathering estimated at 11,500 fans, approximtely 2,000 more than witnessed last gears first Saturdays program, was on hand today to view the nine-race program. The weather was warm and the track remained fast in spite of light rains that fell during the moi-ning with the races being decided under cloudy skies. One of the better events of the afternoon saw O. and R. Pollocks Jerrys Gem lead throughout the six furlongs of the sub-feature sixth race to score by two "and one half lengths under the handling of apprentice Vidal Guajardo. The six-year-old son of Royal Gem II. Pretty Fox was never seriously threatened and bested Thomas Gammons fast-closing Shrewd Tip, who beat out G. C. Yost Jr.s Ballynette by two lengths. Thiid choice in the wagering,, the winner paid 1.00 after racing the six furlongs in the creditable time of 1:11. Another huge pay-off came in the Daily Double wagering here today when G. Holdens Wink Proof, upset winner of the first race, paid 0.20 to win and J. R. Dwyers front-running Dancing Marjie combined for a return of 95.00 for those coupling the pair. Dancing Marjie was ridden by Paul Keiper and led throughout to pay 4.20 after besting A, N. Girrims Miss Tidwell by a half length. Finishing third was the J and B Stables Relet and the running time for the six furlongs was 1:12. Nicely handled by James Clemens, Wink Proof gained a slight lead in the stretch turn of the opening event and outgamed C E. Brown Jr.s Seltzer to score by a scant nose. Seltzer, favored in the wagering, .was four lengths to the good over R. W. Mahans Dan Cross and the winner stepped the five and one-half furlong distance in 1 : 06.
