19 19 Sophomore Sophomore Fillies Fillies Seeking Seeking Acorn; Acorn; Lucky Lucky Dip Dip Registers Registers Upset Upset in in Kent Kent Beats Out Inswept; Barbizon Is Eighth Cain Hoys French Import Length and Quarter on Top "At Delaware; 16,416 Attend By CIIARIES HATTON DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del.. June 1. A sleek bay colt from La Belle France, Capt. Harry Guggenheims Lucky Dip, thoroughly shocked a majority of a colorful week-end crowd of 16,416, as he poured it on through the stretch and won the mile and a sixteenth of the 5,300 Kent by an emphatic length and one-quarter. Little Pete Anderson had the son of Alizier doing his utmost at the line to beat Gough Thompsons Inswept, who carried 120 pounds and was conceding him nine. A half length off the runner-up, the Glenelg Stables Assemblyman was a well beaten third before Tenacious and the six others of a crack field in which all the first three are engaged in the Belmont Stakes. Disappointment of the race was Mrs. Gene Markeys Barbizon, who had blinkers added to his equipment, carried top weight of 126 pounds, was ridden by Dave Gorman and was a lukewarm choice. Herf set or forced the pace to the end of the back-stretch, where he compounded as his rider switched his whip, booted, shoved and did everything but jump off and push him. Lucky Dip earned 6,550 of which 6,-050 was net and returned his joyous backers a rousing 0 for .00. He went over I the distance in fast footing in 1 :44, time which hardly compared with High Scuds 1 :42 y5 course par. French-Breds First Stakes Win The successful Lucky Dip, who obviously has an amiable disposition and cooperated I generously with his rider, is by one of Baron Guy de Rothschilds French classicists out of a mare by His Grace, and was winning his first stakes victory. He had taken two allowance events in 11 previous starts this season, and trainer Woody Stephens has not wavered in his confidence in the colt. As he returned to the winners enclosure Mrs. George P. Bissel Jr. of Greenville, Del., presented his connections with a trophy. The favored Barbizon looked magnificent in the paddock, and he was .the aggressor in the race itself much of the way. Gorman broke him alertly from the inside post position, but had to spank him to secure the lead, as Assemblyman, Wassail and True Verdict tried to wrest command from him going into the clubhouse turn. Barbizon led by a length around that curve, with Assemblyman in closest pursuit and Wassail third, but retreating steadily several lengths back. Barbizon and Assemblyman detached themselves from the others going down the far side of the course and toward the end of that lane Assemblyman went to Barbizons head. The Calumet colt resisted stubbornly all around the final turn, but was forced to capitulate and the crowd gasped as he dropped back beaten and Assemblyman straightened for home in front. The Glenelg colts contention was far from finished, however, and Inswept, coming from a point midway the pack on the turn, went at him with a bold maneuver he could not deny. Through the final sixteenth, he in turn was caught and passed by Lucky Dip, an early laggard now running like a fresh horse. In the end it was the Cain Hoy colt by a clear margin. Inswept beating out Assemblyman for the place. i
