I., N. Y., iJune 1. Three stakes adorn the agenda at Belmont Park for the coming week, starting with Mondays 5,000-added Acorn Stakes for three-year-old fillies at one mile, which has drawn a field of 19. The 5,000 Juvenile Stakes for two-year-olds at five furlongs on the Widener straightaway will be renewed on Wednesday, while Saturdays feature is the 0,000 Metropolitan Mile. If all 19 go postvard injthe Acorn, the stakes will carry a gross prize of 2,300 and a gross to the winner of 3,550, less 00 in fees. However, a few scratches can be expected, reducing the value 50 per withdrawal on each end. There are several interesting invaders in the Acorn, including the winners of the Kentucky Oaks and Black Eyed Susan and the runners-up in those stakes. M. R. Soto, who also is co-owner of the filly, saddled Lori-EI for her facile triumph over Hal Price Headleys Pillow Talk in the Kentucky QaKs, in which Cain Hoy Stables Jota Jdtaj; finished up the track. Lori-EI then went; to Chicago where she finished a distant "third against the older and extremely hard-hitting Swoons Son and Munchausen in the La Salle Handicap. Pillow Talk followed her defeat by Lori-EI in the Kentucky Oaks by winning the Black Eyed Susan, former Pimlico Oaks, by two and one-half lengths over Jota Jota, while Dhu Varren Farms Cousin Con, clever winner of her two previous starts, stopped badly and finished last at 3-to-l in that stakes. A. F. Walls erratic La Verite was also unplaced in the Pimlico stakes. Light n Lovely Fourth in Betsy Ross William Helis Jr.s speedy Light n Lovely finished fourth in the six-furlong Betsy Ross stakes won by Evening Time at Garden State, while J. S. Kroeses Marullah was second in that race, then turned in a dull race at Jamaica in which she finished behind Claiborne Farms Bayou, R. N. Websters Capelet and C. T. Chenerys Williamette, all of whom are in the Acorn. Sanford Stud Farms Onaga, who has been training cleverly, has not been seen since the Florida season. Syl Veitch will saddle the only entry in the Acorn, sending out Snow White and Magic Forest for C. V. Whitney. Snow White had little trouble beating Mrs. Laudy Lawrences Jolie Dejaat Jamaica on May 21, while Magic Forest finished a length behind Marullah on May 24 at the same track. The Acorn field is completed by George D. Wideners Teleran, Ogden Phipps Ambulance, J. M. Roeblings Neshanic, King Ranchs Here and There and Ralph Lowes Nearala. All 19 will carry scale weight of 121 pounds in this somewhat classic mile. A rapidly improving filly, Nearala has won her last two starts. Teleran won her last, improving with blinkers, but finished a close third to Nearala and Untamed without them in herprevious outing. While this years crop of three-year-old fillies has not impressed as being of vintage quality, certainly not including anything of the class of such colts as Bold Ruler, Iron Liege, Gallant Man or Gen. Duke, this edition of the Acorn appears to have attracted the best available. Though the stakes has often resulted in an upset, it lias also been won by such stars as Top Flight, Good Gamble, Damaged Goods, Twilight Tear, Gallorette, But Why Not and Kiss Me Kate. Two of the last three renewals resulted in a dead heat, the camera being unable to separate "Riverina and Happy Mood in 1954, while last year, Continued on Page Forty-Two MICHAEL R. What appears to be the class of this "years Acorn is composed of Lori-El, Pillow Talk, Jota Jota, Bayou and the Whitney pair, with Nearala, Marullah -and Cousin Con also having given indications of that quality. Another large field is in prospect for the Juvenile, which drew four additional supplementary nominees announced today. These are Alliance, Jimmer, Lils Fella and Net Ball. The Metropolitan, weights for which are due on Monday, is expected to be headed, by Mrs. Jan Burkes Dedicate, with his chief rivals likely to be Greentree Stables Riley, Lou P.
