Racing Secretary Fred Burton is forecasting one of the strongest and most competitive fields for this third running of the one-mile stakes. Last years winner, Swoons Son, catapulted into serious cori-sideratoin as the nations three-year-old champion. Louis Lee Haggins Manteau, winner of last Thursdays Diamond Stakes; Reverie KnOU Farms, well -regarded Jet .Colonel, who on two successive occasions trounced Barbizon in Florida this winter; William S. Millers Better Bee, third in the Derby Trial and John L. Appelbaums Easter invader, Mister Jive, are expected to head a field of at least 10 or 12 in Saturdays Chicagoan. v . Balmorals Wednesday feature attraction is the 0,000 added Honeymoon Handicap for fillies- and marea at seven furlongs. A small, but select field is in prospect, with favoritism probably going to Marion H. VanBergs hard - hitting Argentina - fcred four-year-old filly, Estacion,,who has been assigned 120 pounds for the event. Estacion Suwannee River Victor Estacions big race was a thumping come-from-behind victory over Amoret and Pucker Up in the Suwanee River Handicap at Gulfstream Park. Recently she was a fast-closing third in a Balmoral tune-up sprint.. Other Honeymoon probables are Moss and Nolans Dales Delight, 107 pounds, thjrd in both the Kentucky Oaks and Coronet Stakes; Sunny Blue Farms speedy grey, Supreme Joy, 115; Wilson Stafcles full-sister to Royal Note, Euphony, 107, -second in the Coronet, and Lady Swords, 115, route-running hopeful belonging to the estate of the late Sam E. Wilson, Jr. Mister Jive checked in last week from Garden State. The speedy Mr. Music colt, winner of the Gotham at Jamaica last month, disappointed in the recent Jersey Stakes after showing early speed. But Mister Jives recprd, while spotty, indicates he!ll be a tough customer at one mile. Jet Colonels chief objective at the Bal moral meeting all along has been the Chicagoan. The fleet Jet Pilots offsprings only wins this year in six starts were recorded at the expense of Barbizon, including a head victory in the 6 furlongs Hutcheson Stakes in mid-March. Those races "made" the colt, according to Trainer Frank Sanders who. firmly believes the colt capable of handling the one mile. Better Bee has turned in some promising races this year, and in most the well-bred colt has shown an affinity for distance. Unplaced in the Kentucky Derby, Better Bee won an overnight race in Florida this winter, and was third in both the Fountain of Youth and the Derby Trial. Manteau, a son of the great Citation, recently discovered his best stride at the Balmoral meeting. He has run up a s.treak of three straight triumphs including the Domino, in which he closed n whirlwind fashion to beat Jet Colonel. His only other stakes effort gave him a third in the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland behind Round Table and One-Eyed King. - Ralph Lowe has a powerful three-horse entry ready for Saturdays Chicagoan, Aberion, Hatibound and Kentucky Roman. All three are winners this year, with Ken- l-tucky Roman showing a win "in the Ar- kansas Derby at Hot Springs.
