Miss Thing Maintains Her Unbeaten Record Hartford Stable Juvenile Beats Improve in Garden State Event By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 6.— Harford Stables Miss Thing maintained a perfect record for three starts winning the Lakehurst Purse here this afternoon, a 5 -furlong dash designed as a prep for the 5,000 added Rancocas Stakes that will be renewed here next Wednesday. Jockey Joe Culmone also completed a triple for the day astride the filly and the crowd favored her in the betting for a .20 return. She won driving by three-quarters of a length over Mrs. Bur-dette S. Wright Jr.s Improve, with John W. Kanes Ebbies Girl finishing third, another four lengths behind. Miss Thing won like a good thing in a respectable time of 1:00 Vs. She is not, however, a Rancocas nominee. The Harford Stable purchased the daughter of Sea Charger — Busy Morning from the Belmont sales for a mere ,600 last year, a price which she has already returned several-fold. The winner was one of two in the field of eight, not nominated to the stakes. The other is Spring Hill Farms Conga Star, who finished sixth. Miss Thing had superior speed from the beginning and drew out by a comfortable margin on the final turn. Through the stretch she shortened stride, but responded to punishment and held Improve safe. The latter showed the best of the Rancocas hopefuls and closed with good courage under a heavy drive by Howard Grant. Both she and Cary C. Boshamers Nibrud came away slowly, but Improve carried her courage while the other showed a brilliant flash of speed on the turn and then tired badly. None of the others were impressive in the running, although Ebbies Girl finished well and Joseph W. La Croix Missus Beau showed early speed before tiring.
