Black Hills Is Full of Run at Belmont In Workout With Preakness in View Timed 5 Furlongs in 1 :002/s;4 One-Eyed King and General Arthur Prep for Turf Stakes By COSTY CARAS Staff Correspondent JAMAICA, L. I., N. Y., May 6.— The King Ranchs Black Hills, who passed up the Kentucky Derby but whose connections have indicated that the highly improved colt may start in the Preakness, was full of .run this morning during his 5-panel 1:00% drill over the Belmont main track. The three-year-old offspring of Princequillo-Blackie II., by Congreve, has been moving up with each start and trainer Max Hirsch is high on this one. Brookmeade Stables Big Effort, who scored impressively here Saturday in the Bed o Roses Handicap, indicated she came out of that event in fine fettle as she breezed 5 furlongs in 1:01% handily. That stables Oligarchy, just returned from Garden State, covered the same distance in 1:001 5. Claiborne Farms Nadir made his first appearance on the Elmont strip, and was worked five-eighths in 1:01. Kentucky Pride, from the Calumet Farm string, was under slight restraint during his 5-panel 1 :C1 breeze, and Mrs. Wallace Gilroys Oh Johnny, another member of the handicap ranks, was merely galloping during his 5-furlong 1:06 clocking. One-Eyed King, prepping for the grass races when the scene shifts next Monday to the spacious Belmont Park, posted a 1:15 timing for three-quarters of a mile, while Four Fathoms, from the Howell E. Jackson barn, stepped a half mile in the/ good time of :47%. Four Fathoms has been nominated for the Grey Lag on Saturday, but is a doubtful starter. King Ranchs Chistosa, who ran a bang-up race in the Bed o Roses, but was the victim of a variety of interferences, traveled a half mile in :48 handily, and seems to have come out of that race in good shape. William Haggin Perrys Snow Fight and Miocene worked in company with the former hanging up an excellent :47 for the half mile and the latter three-fifths slower. Royal Dazzler continued to shine in his early morning trials, as the untried son of Royal Vale drilled 5 panels from the gate in 1:01%, handily. On the Jamaica track. Brae Burn Farms General Arthur, who blossomed into an exceptional grass performer during the Florida season, was given an easy mile as he ambled along in fractions of :39 for the | 3 furlongs, :52 for the half mile, 1:19 for three-quarters, moved past the 7-furlong marker in 1:32% and was up the mile dis- tance in a moderate 1:47. Trainer Hirsch Jacobs Land of Hope stepped a quick 5 furlongs in 1:00% handily while that stables Marymount Miss traveled four panels in :49%. Trainer H. Allen Jerkens had Mrs. Jan Burkes Coroebus work five-eighths in 1:02 handily while Air Stream had an easy half mile drill in :53 breezing. Other works of note included Sarah Jordan, three panels over the Belmont training strip in :37, Stockwell a like distance in :36%, Pundit, 5 furlongs in 1:02; Queens Mount and Real Sincere, the same distance in equal time, Brush Fire. 3 furlongs in :36 handily on the Jamaica oval.
