Head Chef Victorious On Maumee Downs Card Jockey Bernard Walt Brings Home Two Successive Winners By T. J. MULLIGAN Staff Correspondent MAUMEE DOWNS, Maumee, Ohio, May 6. — Hot and humid weather with the temperatures in the high 80 s was the order of the day for the midweek program. The track was fast and 2,600 fans were on hand. Head Chef, owned and conditioned by F. Courtney, found the racing strip to his liking this afternoon when he drove to a three and one-half length victory in the "second race. The son of Condiment finished fifth in his previous outing here over a sloppy track. Jockey Bernard Walt, who has been riding with considerable success at the current meeting, was astride the winner, who returned 5.40 and completed a Daily Double worth 8.00 with Joes Honey, winner of the first race. Margaret Blackfords Neo Nina was second by a nose with Mr. and Mrs. La Plants Is Yours finishing third. Joes Honey, performing in the peach and lavendar racing silks of Mrs. M. Du-den, accounted for the opening race when she eked out a neck decision over Mrs. Du-puys Triple-Crown. The latter was one length to the fore of J. J. Stewarts Suf-ferns Ace, who was a similar distance in advance of R. Clarks Debbie M. Jockey Jose Pelaez rode the winner, who played the role of favorite and paid .80. Infinite Risk, a chestnut daughter of Risque Rouge, graduated from the maiden ranks in the third race, when she finished between horses to gain a head verdict over G. Hepplers Hay Pal, who was a neck before Florence Donatos Your Boss as these three raced as a team the final 70 yards. Jockey Bernard Walt was aboard the winner to give him his second saddle triumph of the day. Silent Threat, owned by F. T. Lang, was fractious at the starting gate unseating her rider and slightly delaying the start. She was outrun during the contest.
