Quick Master Gets Call for Hachazo Seeks His Second Sportsmans Score Garrison and Active Crater May Prove Most Troublesome Of His Six Sophomore Rivals By C. A. LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 6. — Joe-Anna Stables Quick Master passed up the Midwestern Handicap on Wednesday in favor of competing in the 6V2 furlongs Hachazo Purse here Thursday. He will be meeting six other top-flight three-year-olds in this ,500 sprint feature event and appears to have a slight edge off better races. Quick Master, a son of Quick Reward and Miss Cindy Sue, was returned the winner of his first start of the current meeting when he took a 6-furlong dash over such fleet-footed three-year-old sprinters as Fair Sada and Our Rocky, winning with apparent ease and having a two and one half length margin at the finish. The Joe-Anna Stables entrant has not been showing too much speed away from the starting gate, but he has been fairly flying in the stretch run, as his winning race shows. Since that victorious performance on opening day here, Quick Master has started here but once, that being in the ,000 Miss Brilliant Handicap, where he was just able I to get up in closing strides to garner third I money. With an "off" racing strip a probability, Quick Master may be able to handle this field with little trouble. Garrisons First Start Since Florida The Ramar Stable will be represented in the Hachazo by their sophomore Garrison, who will be making his first appearance 1 since his Florida campaign, where he raced with some success. This son of Stronghold and Fealty II. is quite versatile as he can handle himself at both sprint and route i distances. His last race over the Gulfstream 1 Park oval was far from impressive as he j finished last in a field of seven at the mile I and 70 yards distance, but going further , back in his record he shows some top per-t formances, having wen at Tropical at j 1 1-16 miles and before that at fft furlongs. Proof that he can handle an "off" I track was evidenced by a 612 furlongs victory over a muddy racing strip last fall at the Hawthorne oval. Despite the fact that this will be his first start over the local oval, he may prove to be the main threat to the Joe-Anna Stables Quick Master. Active Crater, who sports the silks of the W. J. Schmidt stable, was a winner in March at Gulfstream Park and rates better than an outside chance to take home the top money in Thursdays feature. Active Crater races where the claiming values are between 0,000 and ,500, can on occasions turn in a top performance against better horses. His victory at the Florida oval was a six furlongs in 1:11% in which he was just able to get up in the last few strides to beat such sprinters as Hildas Honey and Byafleet. During his 1958 campaign he was only able to visit the winners enclosure once in 14 starts, that being a 6-I furlong dash at Arlington Park.
