Managing director Robert F. Carey also announced that four overweight handicap features totalling 0,000 would augment the stakes schedule. Topping the roster is the 00,000 added Hawthorne Gold Cup. won the last two years by Round Table and the medium in 1958 by which the Kerr champion set a new worlds money-winning record. The Cup will be renewed on closing day, October 17. Nominations for the Cup close July 7. To Market Given Stakes Status Principal change in the Hawthorne stakes list is thhe Juenile Handicap, which has been boosted 0,000 in the value to 5,000 added and its distance increased from 6 furlongs to 1 1-16 miles. Conditions for the To Market, which has been an overnight feature for older horses in past seasons, have been changed and the event, now given stakes status, will be for two-year-old colts and geldings at 6 furlongs for a purse of 5,000 added. In addition to the 5,000 added C. W. Bidwill Memorial Handicap, which will have its 13th running on October 3, the program includes three stakes worth 5,-000 each in added money. They are the Chicago Handicap, on the turf course, which will have its 26th running September 12; the Midwest Handicap 21st running I , September 19, and the Illinois Owners Handicap 30th running , on September 26. Four Overnight Handicap Features The opening day feature on Tuesday, September 8, wil be the 0,000 Hawthorne Inaugural Handicap. Two £urf features, each carrying a purse of 0,000, are the Martie Flynn Handicap, September 26, and the Sun Beau Handicap, October 14. The fourth 0,000 feature is .the Gold Cup Prep Handicap on October 10. Last year Hawthornes gross distribution to horsemen totalled ,372,425, an average of 9,212.14 a day.
