| Field of Nine Named For Fonner Top Event Beau Clerc, Nights Pick, Cotton Crop in Starter Allowance Race By DEAN WILLIAMS Staff Correspondent FONNER PARK, Grand Island, Nebr., May 6. — The top offering on Thursdays program will be a starters allowance race at 6 furlongs. The race, titled the Madison Downs Purse, drew the entry of nine horses including: J. D. Taylors Chicuelo Trust, William Stiles Indigo Star, J. P. Hansons Cotton Crop, Ed Luthers Kay Ellen, Jack Harrells Ru sty Dream, Jim Romjues Count Cobra, Virgil Keslings Mystery Kidd, Ben Fogelsons Beau Clerc, and Folly Farms Nights Pick. Beau Clerc will be making his third start of the meeting in the Madison Downs purse. His first effort over the local course found him finishing third behind Gille Machree and Mr. Foxie on the second day of the meeting. The Fogelson gelding made his most recent start as part of an entry with Bid Me. He was overmatched in the effort and finished sixth behind his stablemate and Curly Kem. Nights Pick turned in a top effort over an "off" race track in allowance competition. With the prospects being for a racing strip of the same condition for Thursdays card, he will undoubtedly receive a great deal of backing. Cotton Crop is making his first start over the local five-furlong oval, but campaigned earlier in the season at Hot Springs. He turned in a creditable performance to finish second in his last out over the Oak-lawn Park strip.
