impolite Gains Rather Lucky Win at Cahokia Tonights Ozark Purse Engages Legate and Equimore as Entry By J. J. HAHN Staff Correspondent CAHOKIA DOWNS. East St. Louis, 111., May 6. — Impolite, a veteran son of Hachazo, owned and bred by Harold W. Ostle of nearby Collinsville and ridden by J. A. Dailey, probably scored a lucky victory Tuesday night in accounting for the 6V2 furlongs McLeansboro Purse, which served as the main event. The Illinois-bred defeated Mattingley and Hardicks Miss Monk, the unlucky public choice, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beustrings Momanpops and three others, including Helens Grace, Nor-co and Chichon who finished in that order. Norco went to the front soon after the start but Impolite, who had been carried wide rounding the clubhouse turn by the early leader quickly recovered and when settled on the backstretch began to move to the fore and entering the stretch was in the van by three lengths as the early leader began to falter. Miss Monk, who had been steadied along in third place, moved up rapidly entering the stretch but she bolted and despite the big loss of ground was wearing down the winner near the end, dropping the decision by half a length as the public choice was four lengths in advance of Momanpops. Tomorrow nights main event is the Ozark Purse, an allowance affair at 7 furlongs, and heading the eight-horse field is Mrs. E. B. Shipps consistent Legate who has won seven races this year. The 10-year-old altered son of Some Chance, a favorite in this vicinity for many years, will get some help in the event in Equimore, a stablemate. The latter was one of the most improved horses engaged at Jefferson Downs in Louisiana. Matched against the Shipp pair are Cool Customer, Mr. Jocko, Rozs Pride, Cableon and Carrol P. Polands coupling of Miltons Baby and Oscars Pocket.
