Plion Upset by Michore at Pimlico 4 Powhatan Colt Has Clear-Cut Margin Odds-On Choices Late Move Falls Short as Son of Miche Makes Own Pace Throughout By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 6.— Mi-chore, from the Powhatan Farm of Walter E. Crismer, scored a major upset at Pimlico this afternoon when he downed Edward Potter Jr.s 7-to-10 favorite, Plion, by a length and a quarter in the featured Rogers Park Purse. Michores time for 6 furlongs under Carlos Gonzalez was a speedy 1:11 flat and he returned 0.20 to his backers in the crowd of 8,791. In third position, another three lengths in arrears, was Frances A. Genters Our Holiday, who was a length better than Mrs. Walter A. Edgars Milady Dares. A four-year-old son of Miche, from Ore-the-Lea, Michore had been unplaced in each of his four starts this year after having won four of 18 last season. He was a sharp competitor in the Rogers Park, however, displaying speed from the outset. He raced Scout Ship into defeat to attain a clear advantage on the turn, then was not seriously threatened. Widens Advantage to Four Lengths With a two-length lead nearing the stretch, Gonzalez got into Michore and the Powhatan colt widened to a four-length lead, as Plion, with Larry Adams seeking a triple, lodged his rally and set sail for the lead. Plion, a frequent disappointment in stakes competition but the possessor of a fine record which includes seconds in the Bowie and Wilwyn Handicaps, again failed to live up to expectations. He closed ground during the drive but fell well short while conceding 12 pounds to Michore. Joseph Nechamkins Frank Again gained victory in the sixth event, a mile and one-sixteenth turf race in which he downed the 7-10 favorite, Melvin H. Schlosbergs Lord Gregor, by a nose. In gaining his initial victory of the year in nine starts, the Friendly Frank colt was timed in 1:44% over firm footing and paid 2. Mrs. Henry A. Parr III.s Limoges was three and a half lengths back in third position. Frank Again was strongly ridden by Willie Lester, who came back in the seventh race astride Mrs. Francis J. Wilsons Phantom Gold to complete a consecutive double. Phantom Gold, a 7.40 longshot, led practically throughout to down Richard Adamsons Rabbit and Mrs. Barbara Kees Foamy. Larry Adams also scored a saddle double during the afternoon, winning the third race with Francis Smalls Draconis and the fifth event with MrS. Charles P. Cheno-weths Turkish Gold. Draconis was a solid favorite, while Turkish Gold paid .40.
