PAULINE GROSS showed good speed from the start, was steadied and, saving ground down the backstretch, came outside of the leader to challenge in the stretch and-outfinished HATTER WAR. The latter assumed a short lead soon after the start, dominated the pace throughout and just missed. ATHAPASCAN moved up on the outside to vie for command after six furlongs and faltered. GEORGE COLLINS, never far off the pace, was unable to reach the leaders under late urging. LIFTER went evenly. IRVINGTON lacked a late rally. STAR BAND had no mishap. GRUMPITO dropped back after the start and was unable to menace with a late rush. THE LUCKY SON retired steadily after a half mile. The others were outrun. Scratched— 18411 Jakablom, 105. CLOUDED SUN opened a commanding lead before a quarter mile, was roused inside the final furlong and maintained the lead under intermittent urging. OUR JAN came inside and between horses on the final turn, responded to pressure and finished stoutly. COTTON BUD loomed as a Ureat entering the stretch and went evenly thereafter. SMASHING saved ground to maintain position. TOOL PUSHER had no mishap. EDIEROSE weakened after a half mile. BIG REWARD was never prominent ROSY SCENE showed nothing. POPS, forwardly placed under steadying restraint, was roused after starightening for the drive, responded willingly and was along to forge to the front in the final yards. DESCENTIVE, kept close to the pace from the outset, vied for command and alternated in the lead through the stretch, failed to last under steady urging. WHATATOY moved with an early rush between horses to assume command, set the pace to the stretch, remained close up after giving way and weakened in the final yards. WATCH UNION drove up close to the leaders in the stretch and weakened. WAR LASS was under stout pressure during the final quarter mile but failed to make up ground. NEW FLAVOR had no mishap.
